"Skrag the Slaughterer" QUESTION!!!

original thread ↗

Is "Skrag the Slaughterer - Prophet of the Great Maw" a good model to use ?
I never see anyone using it ...  :?

THX ^_^

this is not quite true.
there are a lot of SKrag Cricus builds, and a lot of us have used him with some good results.
He is fun to use, but has been downgraded since the outcome of 7th ed, according to which he cannot hide in units anymore.
Yet, the fact that he can bring many gorgers in the battle makes him a fun (and usefull) alternative to "normal" builds.
And, don't forget he is the only way we can have a slaughtermaste in 2000 pts games.

When I field him, I usually take also a butcher with banstick and scroll; bruiser BSB and 5-6 gorgers (apart the usual IGs and bulls).

I used him in the UKGT a while ago- didn't qualify, but was the 2nd highest ranking Ogre player so he can't be that bad.

He can be fun to use with the gorgers as Ikim says, makes a nice change to the normal list.

You can't be old and wise, and have youthful memory... even if you are FF

Achievements 39/101

Latest: 9. Sigh! - lose more than 3 ogres to any one casting of a spell that involved you taking an initiative test as part of it's resolution

1)Is "Greasus Goldtooth" a good model to use?

2)"Greasus Goldtooth"    or    "Skrag the slaughterer"...which one is better ?

I will agree to the #2 answer that Wildcard has here in general terms, but I have found that against certain army builds like the WE's forest spirit build I would rather have the fatboy.  I have taken Skragg a few times and he doesn't die or get beaten, but because his weapon isn't magical I have a hard time getting by my opponents 5+ ward save (against ethereal beings he would have similar problems too I think), especially when I got stuck in against treekin.  In that case I would have much rather had Greasus with his ability to rally troops and his big ol' magical weapon.  Honestly, I will probably never go a special character versus this army, but if I was, I would go Greasus.  However PLEASE remember that this is an exception to the rule , in general I agree wholeheartedly with Wildcard and would go with Skragg.

JC
