The 1st Annual ogre Stronghold Hobby Hero Awards!!

original thread ↗

2007 has been a banner year here at the stronghold. We've seen more new members than ever before. more posts than ever before and I'm sure you'll agree the quality of the posts and the members posting here just keeps going from strength to strength. I'm proud to be a member of the friendliest (and dare I best ;)) warhamer site on the net. And I'm even more proud to announce the first annual Ogre Stronghold Hobby Hero Awards!

Movies have the Oscars, music has the Grammies, and now wargamers have the Hobby Hero awards. This is the first in a series of threads which will see the best members in each category crowned hobby hero and given a pet gnoblar (and a suitable prize) to reward them and thank them for al ltheir hard work and devotion.

The awards are divided into categories. You have from today untill 30th November 2007 to PM me with your nominations for each category. Everyone can only nominate one person for each category so please think carefully before sending the nomination PM. Once the deadline has passed, a shortlist of nominees for each category will be poasted and the members of the stronghold can vote for who they want to be Hobby Heroes for 2007. (wherever possible, please include a link to a thread to support your nomination)

These awards are all for work, help and achievement done from the 1st of January 2007 so please bear that in mind when thinking of nominees and look back at the great years we've just had, not just the members who spring to mind from the last few weeks. We've had loads of new gnoblogs and models posted this year, and updates and continuations of classic and favourite gnoblogs from the past (all elligible). this is a year when our generals have done great work organising the tribes and leading us into an alliance with the dwarves during the nemesis crown, after our tyrants battled it out to earn the right to lead. This year we have had Warhammer Fantasy Online brought to the forum and a new, great way for members to interact ad have fun has come about. please think about all these things and more when considering your nominations.

Well I've prattled on for quite long enough now, let's get to the nominations:

Achievement in Painting in 2007
Achievement in Modelling in 2007
Achievment in Tactics and Strategy in 2007
Achievment in Storytelling in 2007
Most Helpful Member

Best Ogre model posted in 2007
Best other model posted in 2007
Best Ogre army posted/updated in 2007
Best other army posted/updated in 2007
Best competition run in 2007

And finally,

The Ogres Choice Award. This is a special award for someone who doesn't nescessariy fit into one of the above categories, or who is so great they fall into many of them. this is your chance to get a member of the stronghold rewarded for their hard work here.

I'll expand the categories with clarifications in the next few posts, but until then, please ask any questions and get those nominations in!

thanks
Corai

some clarifiaction of the categories:

Achievement in Painting in 2007
This can be a membe who has consistently shown a great standard of work throughout the year. Maybe one who has come along leaps and bounds or even someone who has exibited one, fantastic piece of miniature 'art'

Achievement in Modelling in 2007
As above, but for the modeling side of the hobby. Look at sculpting, converting or even a truly fantastic use of the standard models

Achievment in Tactics and Strategy in 2007
This can encompass armylists, strategies, advice on uses for units or magic item combos. Or even advice for how to defeat a specific enemy. Like the above categories, this can be a continuous achievement, a one off or a huge improvement voer the year.

Achievment in Storytelling in 2007
Not all storytelling finds it's place in the Maw Pit Sagas forum. check out peoples gnoblogs as wel for great examples of narrative fiction and driving fluff behind infinitaly creative and imaginative armies

Most Helpful Member
Exactly wat it says on the tin. It's no secret that we have one of the most helpful and friendly member-bases on the net, so I expect this wil be one of the most hotly contended categories. Who has been the most helpful to you, or have you seen being consistently helpful to other ogres around you?

For these categories espescially, please make the time to include a link to the relevant post/thread to support your nomination

Best Ogre model posted in 2007
This is for painted models for an ogre kingdoms army. Gnoblars, yhettees and scrap launchers etc are all acceptable (remember it has to be posted in 2007). Equaly classic ogre models and conversions/sculpts are all acceptable.

Best other model posted in 2007
This is for painted models which come from any other army or game system. Non GW models are perfedtly aceptable, as are other WFB models, 40K ones etc.

Best Ogre army posted/updated in 2007
This is for the best Ogre Kingdoms army posted or updated in 2007. The army didn't have to be started this year but must have had a model added or some update done to it during the course of 2007.

Best other army posted/updated in 2007
As above, but for other WFB armies, 40K armies and gangs/groups/armies from other games systems

Best competition run in 2007
We've had some great competitons run this year, some by the moderators, most by the great members of the stronghold. Remember this is a category for the competition itself, not the person who ran it (of course this will obviously have a big impact on who you nominate). The prize will be divided accordingly.

The Ogres Choice Award
I can't really define or qualify this category. that's down to you. Who do you think deserves recognition or reward? Think of this as the fellowship/lifetime achievement award of the Hobby Hero awards ;)

thaks

This is a very good idea. It was very hard to pick just one in some catagories actually in any catagory. Maybe next time the mods can select the nominees or nominees can be called for and voted on. Anyway sent my PM.

Cheers Aris

An excellent initiative, Coria. Maybe a bit too much categories to pick. Do you have to fill in each category? Because I hardly look at the tactics and strategy section of the forum, so it's hard to make a proper choice.

no need to nominate someone for every category, you can just make nominations for the categories you are familiar with

Sent a PM with my nominations a couple days ago.

Will every nomination go through for voting or is there a secret amount of nominations they'll have to receive to get through to voting?

Good Luck to everybody! (Especially those who are deserving!)

Hi everyone,

I had a few questions (or rather one question...) concerning these awards... Hope there is no problem if I ask it here...
Eeerm... As you may have noticed, I am a new member of the Stronghold, and even though I used to come here from time to time before I finally decided to get involved I am not really familiar with all the great things that have been done around here for the past year... Nevertheless, I'd enjoy nominating a few of you guys, because I've been sneaking around a lot and really saw some amazing modelling/painting/tactics and also very helpful members...  The problem is, I am not sure I'll be able to find someone for each category, because I'd feel stupid to nominate someone, let's say for example, for "best mini" if I may have missed lots of them lost in the mass of minis posted here...

So, finally comes the question: is it possible to give names only for some of the award categories, or would it mess up all the thing? If it's the case, well I'll try my best to find someone for each of them (there is enough skilled people around to find someone...) but I'm just not sure it will be as partial it should... :?

Sorry for annoying everyone...

absolutley fine to make nominations for just 2 or 3 (or even 1) of the categories of that's what you're comfortable with
