ogres' weight?

original thread ↗

I'm gonna simplify this a bit:
An average ogre is heavy, an Irongut heavier, a tyrant is well heaviererestest
If you look in the original ogre book, is shows a picture of ogres sacking a caravan and one of the ogres is fighting a guy on a horse.  I strong man of moderate build would weigh about 175 on average and a horse (quarter horse for good measure) will weigh about 1100 pounds for a small/moderate warhorse.  That is 1300 lbs. and the ogre in the picture still looks like he would outweigh them.  I would honestly put ogres at about 1500 pounds for an average guy, 1400 for a whelp, 1500/1600 for an irongut and so on.  A tyrant would weigh more than 2000 in my opinion.  The book says that they can stand over 12 feet tall and they are completely filled with fat, bone and muscle.  12 feet of pure fat, muscle, and dense bone could easily weigh 2k lbs.

I'm gonna go with this vote as well. And, I'm gonna give this guy a gnoblar for his awesome adjective for our tyrants. :D

Which brings up my question; OP or not, why are ogres only toughness 4?

Not many of the Ogre stats make sense if you compare them to the rest of the game, its one of those things you just have to accept I guess
Game's the same, just got more fierce.

Weight isn't necessarily a measure of toughness; yeah, the ogres could weigh 1k, 1.5k, even 2k lbs., but even a sharpened sword can pierce their leather-like skin.

The stats numbers are kinda arbitrary to begin with, but with the understanding that 3 is the most average number in game, 4 is an attempt to show that they're "above average" in strength and toughness. And, 5's and larger are kinda saved for monsters and powerful characters.

It's sorta the same issue D&D has with explaining their attribute points. What's the difference between an intelligence of 10 and 11? or 12 and 18? It's simply the best attempts of the game designers to make a playable game in a grander perspective.

...And if you're worried about your ogres only being Toughness 4... Use toothcracker/wyssan's wildform ;)

Woah! Some massive threadomancy here (from 2007!?). A good topic lets give it a much deserved rest.
