so my married friends are cleaning up their house and getting rid of all this stuff in the random closets, attics and such. Apparently at once point one of them was going to start playing a chaos fantasy army, but it never got off the ground, and now they are getting rid of the stuff. As their only friend who actually does play fantasy, they just said "take it all."
This is what I have, do i need more to complete the army, or do i have enough to run with? And which army book is this for, Hordes or Beasts? (i'm still pretty new to fantasy)
3 boxes Chaos Knights Regiment 3 boxes Warriors of Chaos Regiment 2 boxes Marauders of Chaos Regiment 1 blister of 2 Marauders with Flails 2 blisters Chaos Hounds 1 box Marauder Horsemen 1 box Chaos Chariot 1 blister Chaos Lord on Steed 1 blister Archaon 1 blister Bestigor Command Group 1 blister Chaos Warriors Components

It's a pretty good start. Actually I suggest some more hounds and a unit furies what ever mark you are going to play.
About the books: take both, you may use units both ways ( beast in hordes army and vice versa) and your characters may choose magic items from both lists (still some items are for beasts only)
My first advice to you is still, decide which mark you want to play, there are essentially 5 marks and they all have their advantages and disadvantages. When you decided on your mark and the way you want to go into a battle ( all cav, all infantery, combination of both) you can decide what to get next.
Good luck and uhm, where do I get such friends?
My prizes: and for being constructive and funny...

The stuff you have their is essentially for the Hordes of chaos book. And judging by the description of knights and warriors as 'regiments boxes' and archon in a blister, I'd expect it was 5th edition stuff. The knights and warriors are still perfectly usable if so (but knights carry hand weapons now not lances so a bit of conversion mau be needed) and the archoan model changed dramatically so ou may be better using the blister model as a mounted chaos character. Check out hordes of chaos and you'll find out what you have there is more than enough to be getting on with. Without my book to do any real calculations I'd estimate you had at least 3000+ points.
Thanks Corai

that's pretty cool.
a few more questions if i may?
in my reading over the past 6 hours, i've come to enjoy what i've seen of Archaon's Army as well as the Slaanesh Cult. do either of these armies do well on the table, or just lots of hype?
and finally, are there any specific Fantasy Chaos forums like here, Warpshadow for Tyranids and Bolter & Chainsword for Space Marines?

I tell you what you do with that lot, its a great start and it will also bulk out my Horde nicely. So what you need to do is ship the entire lot to me, posthaste!
LOL, no for real you have a great start there. The advice already given is sound on that.
As for the two army lists, I haven't played those personally so I can't comment there. But for the forum question, go to the Herdstone for all your Beasts of Chaos needs (also a lot on all Chaos there) and the Daemonic Legion for Daemons of Chaos. I haven't found a good Hordes of Chaos site yet, still looking!
Good luck with your new army!

Thanks, Herdstone actually had a link to a Hordes forum called "Chamber of the Everchosen".
I'm on my way to enjoy a fruitful eternally damned life as a Slaaneshite.... but i'll still play my ogre's, don't you worry.

Ahhhh just saw you're wanting Slaaneshi. Well, for the helluva it I made you a 2k list ...
I figured with no sorcerers you needed dispel dice, which means Khorne ftw. This list is also just what you had up there, and actually leaves a bunch of models out. I make no claim to this being remotely "good" but I think it would be decent enough. Frankly I think the lord could be an exalted, but those are monster stats on the lord, so all good in my book.
Plan was lord joins MoCU knights and exalted joins the other, big warrior and marauder units hold things so they can be obliterated in the flanks. The small Khorne warriors is a meatgrinder unit I'd like to try out, and the horsemen do their bate/flee thing.

furies, man... furies should be in every chaos army. of course, they are not "required", but they are just soooooo useful.
for you, right now, life is good. Slaanesh is a good choice, too... but you really want some sorcery; the slaanesh lore is one of the best. your beastigor command squad doesn't fit in any of the units you have... I would probably use the sprues for parts to make some of your unused models into slaanesh sorcerors.
you will definitely want all the maurauders, since they have no mark and are the only models you will have that aren't ItP. You have lots of warriors, so I would probably use one of those models to make a sorceror and the rest to make a unit for him to hide in. you have 3 knight units... one of those can be another sorceror and another unit to hide it in. chaos sorcerors can wear chaos armor, so no problems there.
I would consider using the lord as a lord, not a sorceror. there are a few really awesome combos with slaanesh... a sword that replenishes wounds and an enchanted item that makes every wound you take and gives you +1 attack.

thank's Boss, awfully nice of you. i'll keep this around & try it once i get the stuff out of the boxes.
all that stuff is Core Units?? man, do i have room for improvement.
Furies? once i found out what they are i'll take them to heart. concidering my Ogre army is totally devoid of all magic, i was actually thinking of running magic heavy anyway, but it's good to know i was on the right track, Sterling.

the way chaos works is slightly differant to other armies. they have characters (mortal, beast or Dameon) Mortal Units Daemon Units Beast Units Special Choices (found in beasts of chaos) Rare choices (both books)
Special and rare chpices always occupy those slots as with other armies, but your core units are deendent on your general. E.g. if you have a mortal general, then mortal units are core and daemon/beasts units are special as well.
Thanks corai

What does your Archaon model look like? Any chance of making him into a magic user?

I am planning on expnading into chaos sometime (not sure exactly when, have the book though), and was wondering what you guys think leading a mortal force with a Daemon Prince?
(planning on Slaanesh by the way)
Tethlisdate unknown
There are two great draws about using a Slaanesh army: The magic, and the demons. The magic is easily one of the most powerful lores in the game, while the demons (not so much regular daemonettes, but definitely Mounted Daemonettes) are the fastest ground troops available.
If you're intersted in Slaanesh, definitely try to capitalize on both of those factors. The major drawback from Slaanesh comes from the fact that your Immune to Psychology: useful, but limits you tactically since you can no longer flee.
If you choose to go with a Demon Prince AND be magic heavy, you're talking about a very expensive character. A Level 4 Demon Prince can soar above the 500 point price tag easily, so be forewarned. If you really like the look of Slaaneshi daemonic force, consider playing the Daemonic legion from the Storm of Chaos books.
I know its expensive (although, he takes up two slots and costs bout the same as a Chaos Lord + Exated champion, so it isn't more points, they are just bogged down in a single model now instead of two), just wondering what you guys thought of the idea. And I hadn't thought of DL (was planning on mortal/daemon mix, mainly mortal), I'll look into it (I thought SoC lists weren't legal anymore).
Thanks for the advice, more is always appreciated.
