2k tournament ogres.

original thread ↗

Hi everyone,

after being away for a while and painting up my ogres, I decided to start working towards an optimal 2K tournament list, as in my first tournament yesterday I noticed my fat friend missed the edge to be able to get me into the higher ranks...

that's why I made up following list, which I intend to use in an tourney, two weeks from now. I have gone heavy on butchers and guts, as those two are without a doubt the most valuable units for tournament play, giving the opponent something to worry about.

here we go, so spit whatever needs to be spat about the list!  icon_biggrin

Tyrant, Jade Lion,Wyrdstone Necklace,Great Weapon, Brace of Handguns      278
Butcher: bangstick, dispel scroll                                     180
butcher: skull mantle, dispel scroll                                   175
butcher:                                                                       130

3 bulls           105
3 bulls            105
3guts, banner, bellower, war banner    199
3guts, banner, bellower      174
3guts, banner, bellower      174
3guts, banner, bellower      174
8trappers                             48

2leadbelchers                      110

gorger                                  75
gorger                                  75

The idea is the same as always: rush forward and throw gut magic around, either buffing up heavily or going offensive if this is the best way to go, or doing a healthy combo of both. Hopefully getting charges in around turn 2 or 3 with the ironguts centre of the army, while a bull/ belcher combo is taking care of a flank and the other bulls team up with the trappers to tie up the other flanks while those flanks also get enough magical attention to whither them down...
the gorgers are there for obvious reasons, as the tend to persuade people not to hang back on  their edge for to long, and they are usefull for cleaning up gunners and war machines...
I wish I was able to give the tenderiser to my tyrant, but it would cost to much, so that's why I went for this combo, as it grants my central gut unit more stability. I am however thinking about giving him the kineater bigname, as this would grant rerolls to at least 2 units, what do you guys think??

please let me know how you think about the list!!!!

It's should work, but i would try to fit in some look out gnoblars to help protect characters from cannons. If your going to take banners then you need them. Also for your character setup- why not move a scroll to the butcher with nothing? spread out the point?

Sergrum
well, about the LG's... I have never taken them before as I rarely counter cannons, even on tournament I don't get to many of them, and on top of that, it would cost me 20points, which I don't have and I don't have any idea where to get them....

I would like to thank you on the tip of spreading the DS to the naked Butcher, is indeed a great Idea which I well take to heart!!!

anyone else got ideas on the construction?

Dropping Brace of Handguns will get you 2-3 of them... i think 1-2 is all you need incase you run into a cannon (to protect the tyrant for at least a round.

Sergrum
yeah, I could do that, but I was thinking on dropping the jade lion and making him a kineater so at least 2 units of guts could benefit from rerolling panic on ld 9...
if I drop the brace for that, I would get 1 LOG for my tyrants unit and be left with 2 points, anyone got any ideas with those?

well, I probably wouldn't change a thing except maybe stripping the bellowers from the IGs and putting them on the Bulls and Leadbelchers. On the other hand, I can see the arguments to not do that as well. Same thing with pulling off the banners... I can see both sides and take whichever you like.

as far as moving the scroll, don't worry about it... just put the naked butcher out in front to be targeted... it makes a great healable T5 W4 shooting magnet so everything else gets there really fast.

overall i like the list. i hate to say it but im largely sold for good on the tenderiser after my tyrant took down Karl Franz in 1 turn, and 2 turns later took down a huge HE lord on a dragon.

i dont like running so many banners. you only have 3 bait and switch units, and everybody knows our tactics now. i think leadbelchers do better at baiting and switching since if they get near them, they will shoot them where as Bulls just twiddle thumbs.

more banners out there makes you play more conservatively and can really hurt you if things dont go your way. a banner gives 100 VP, another 400 if that was his objective.

other than that, looks solid. id drop the banners on all but 1 and give like another scroll to your other butcher or a common weapon, then give musicians to your bulls and the LBs
I have to say it rarely happens that I lose banners from gut units...and that's most of the time cause they win there combats that I pick out, which is a great strenght for ogres because of our good speed...and it happens to often that I win a round of combat by only 1 point, so I am definitly going to keep my banners in, also because I like the models I made for them  icon_biggrin

It's just a case of using the bulls and belchers in the right way, cause having heavy hitters is never bad, so the more I have, the better my ogres seem to work...

Everything seems fine to me, but i would try to get another unit of leadbelchers, as they are great at drawing fire and can mean you can fire each turn.

Second of all, i would swap out the brace for Heavy armour for some added protection, plus swap jade lion for kineater. the bellowers aren't exactly needed as combination charges should prevent you from running, plus will save points for LG and other items for the naked butcher.
