So this past weekend was my friend's wedding (I was the best man which ='s lots of work) and during the downtime I was able to sneak in a few border patrol games.
1st Battle
My list
1 Butcher w/ Bangstick
4 Ironguts
3 Bulls
8 Trappers.
His List
(Disclaimer, this is not his normal army, we used what armies we had. In other words what I own)
1 skink chief w/ shield, Lt armor, XHW and Blowpipe
20 something Skinks w/ blowpipes
10 Saurus Warriors
5 Saurus Calvary
Setup
It was a capture mission with a lizardman alter in the middle of the board that apparently my butcher wanted to use for some reason (or eat
). That ment a 4ft long by 3ft wide battle field.
Terrain was open around the alter with some woods and hills on the outskirts of the battlefield that didn't really factor into the game.
I depoyed my butcher in the middle facing the alter with the guts to his left and the bulls to his right. The trappers were unable to find a place to scout so they were to the left of my guts.
His skinks were across from my trappers, then his calvary was across from my guts his general was accross from mine and his Saurus warriors were accross from my bulls.
Battle
Turn1
He got first turn and moved everything up (his calvary went stupid)
I moved everything slightly forward, trying to screen my guts from the skinks. My butcher crunched his hero with bonecruncher and buffed everyone up.
Turn 2
He moved everyone a little forward. Skinks kill 2 trappers and panic them.
My toothcrackered bulls charge his saurus and break them. Failing to run them down by 1 inch.
My butcher starts going to work on the skinks killing some. Gnoblars rally and guts move up closer to the alter, still wary of the calvary and skinks.
Turn 3
His saurus rally. His calvary turn around to face the back of my bulls. Skinks move forward to unload on guts. But they make their armor saves (didn't even have to use trollguts regen saves).
I charge his saurus with my bulls but due to no bull charge the saurus hold and are down to 6 saurus (I completly forgot about fear this whole game and the next one. That's what happens when you don't play for ages) My guts charge his skinks but they flee out of range. My butcher buffs himself, heals himself, kills a few skinks and kills one Saurus calvary (his dispel rolls were miserable).
Turn 4
His calvary go stupid right into my bulls (by a quarter inch!). He dispels toothcracker with his power dice. The bulls are decimated and flee. He chases them and runs them down. The skinks rally.
My guts charge his skinks who stand and shoot causing one wound with my regen and armor. They get slaughtered. The gnoblars and butcher move closer to the alter. The butcher doesn't do much as most everything is in combat or out of range.
The game ends on a 1 with the random game length!
Victory Ogres.
Lessons learned: *Butcher in 500 pts games achieve near Slann status expecially with the bangstick and no enemy wizard.
*Trappers are handy for screening as they don't panic my ogres.
*Bulls on a 1 on 1 with 10 Saurus is not ideal but can be done with proper buffs and bull charge but would be better with some support.
*Remember fear!
The other 2 battles will follow soonish.
