Tell me Puggimer, what did you use for you're gut magic spell markers?(mostly enquiring about the heart) Are the trollguts comprised of greenstuff? I might just motivate myself to make some of my own. Oh yes, and the wound counters... where can you get the magnets used for these? Quite ingenious if I say so myself (being nought but a gnoblar and all... )

what happened to the "why I am not a sculptor" section???
puggimer04 Jan 2006
The heart and guts are all greenstuff (with a little guts from the zombie sprue here and there).
The wound markers are are either skeleton skulls, or reaper also has blisters of skulls. The magnets I got here http://www.amazingmagnets.com - they are 1mm thick and 1/8" across. Another company makes some half that size, but I haven't needed them for ogres.
As for the my web site - a couple of months ago my ISP decided to delete my account - without telling me. Some stupid administrative error ( probably tied in with a change to my cable lineup, since it is via my cable company). About the same time my PC died. So once I got back on-line, I had to rebuild it - but I didn't have all the pictures so I trimmed a bunch down - and figured that section was one that could easily go. However I do have the pictures, so if I really need to embarrass myself I can put them back up.
Although I do need to get my UGPS goblins back up as well - they have been neglected and are threatening to go on strike - and if they do then I'll never get my Thunderlord! :-)

I love them - I think I've used somewhere around 300 of them so far for various aspects (wound counters, weapon swaps, gnoblar upgrades). More than the if/hw swap the wound counters are definitely the most useful part - it makes it so much easier to keep track of the wounds across the army.

Figure I ought to update this a bit. I finally got the Thunderlord, only 10 months late (my ex took my kids money they gave her for the order, but never placed it - imagine that!) So they actually got it for me in October finally (around my birthday). But I've been so slow to do anything that he is barely assembled. I did swap out the sword for the big banded club from the Ironguts, and I prefer all my Ogres to always have clubs. But I'm not making his ironfist swappable.
I hope to take some time next week and update pictures on my web site.

Glad to see this tribe is up and going again, looking forward to the thunderlord pics. I know what you mean about the ogre club, I just don't see ogres with thoise big swords, in my head they should all have clubs!
Thanks Corai

Ok, a couple of pics of the Rhinox riders. The gnoblar that acts as a bellower, and the one holding the standard, are both magnetized so that I can field them or take them off to not take the option. In addition, the left arms are magnetized, to field and iron fist or empty (for normal club). I did have a version of the arms with a 2nd weapon, but the most recent version of the rules in WD no longer allow that.

very nice. I love the magnetized idea, and the paintjob, espescially on the rhinox's fur looks excellant. How did you paint the rhinox, was it drybrushed or did you highlight each hair in stages?

Thanks for the compliment. No, I didn't highlight each piece of fur - you give me WAAAAY too much credit there. It was simple drybrushing - a black undercoat, then shades of grey up to a very light white for the final touch.
And I love my magnets! It is great having so many options for the army, and not having to have separate models for each one. And while I haven't gone so far as to model different weapons on the characters that could be swapped out, I have thought about it! Of course, once I had enough models I quit using a lot of the character options (i.e. tooth, sword and luck gnoblars) (at one point I barely scrapped together 2000 pts, now I have like 6000, and doubt I'll get anymore (except I would like to someday make some 'small' rhinox riders instead of the bulls, I just traded some Confrontation minis for a box of leadbelchers, I still will eventually buy a Greasus to complete my collection, and would love to have a Braugh, but will never pay the price they are commanding when they pop up - however maybe a conversion if I ever get everthing painted (now that is a laugh!)).

Ok - finally doing something new with my ogres.
I found a great, easy way to make rope, so I redid the hunter (though I still need highlights on the crossbow and hand)
First - the rope. This is a single pipe cleaner
The rope installed on the hunter
And finally, him with his kitties
I like this rope enough (and it is so cheap and easy) that I'll have to go back and add more to other models - like the giant and the rhinox riders.
Also, I finally picked up 3 rhinox bodies and heads, which I have started to put together to make some 'small' rhinox riders (as opposed to the Bull Riders). I haven't decided how to do the standard / bellower / thunderlord yet - I don't want to duplicate what I did with the FW ones (and no, there has been no progress on the Thunderlord - he just makes the unit so expensive I haven't been able to field him).

I guess it is time to name my pet gnoblars - now that I've earned a third one.
The first thing that comes to mind is obvious - Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner!

Good looking hunter. As Corai said, the rope is a nice addition. I also like the gnoblar sitting in front of the ogre on the rhinox.

Thanks. He is on a magnet - I add him when I want to upgrade the model to a bellower. Same with the standard bearer - it is a gnoblar magnetized holding the standard on the back.

Ok, an update. This past weekend at the Origins RTT in Columbus OH (run by the Olde World Warriors out of Toledo) my FireEaters won Best Appearance! I was stunned to say the least, but very pleased. My record was actuall 1-1-1 (a minor victory against DE, a massacre loss against my sons VC, and a tie against Ogres).
However I've decided to clean up, rebase and add some units to bring back my goblins, with some orcs, for GenCon next month! I've been doing Ogres since they came out, and time for a break. I'll redo the UGPS as the OGPS (Orc & Gobbo Postal Service). Then after that, I've got a new VC army to build, based on the Grateful Dead!

Ok, so not about my Ogres (currently feasting and taking a well deserved rest), but I did win the GenCon Warhammer Tournament this past Saturday (with a record of 2-1-0, and apparently a very strong painting / appearance and sportsmanship score).
I'll be updating my web page with new pics of the new and re-based units soon.

The poor, abused Fire Eaters tribe are finally getting some new blood. It has been far too long since I've done anything with them - and then a shiny new book came out, with some fantastic new models. And once I actually made an 8th edition list with them, I discovered that I actually need to put together a few more ogres (formerly known as bulls), Ironguts and Leadbelchers.
So in the past few months I have picked up another battalion (to go with the box of Leadbelchers that will now NEVER be converted to small rhinox riders (though I still have 3 metal rhinoxes for them)), as well as a Firebelly, 4 Mournfangs, a Thundertusk and IronBlaster.
And a friend of mine has convinced me to be his partner at adepticon - where of course I want to use a lot of the new stuff in the team tournament - so it is time to get painting again. I'm not sure if all 1000 pts will be brand new or just the new edition models, but this may get me to finally finish the Forge World Thunderlord as well (since he is in the same box of unfinished models).

Ok, finally some fire eater love. We went 2-1 at the Adepticon Team Tournament - coming in 30th overall. Not bad, considering we had one test game back in December, and Bill (my partner) was painting his War Alter (the mordheim plague cart) the night before.
We plan on playing in the team tournaments at both Origins and Buckeye Battles. Plus I figure I need to play big games with the big boys as well, so I'll bring them there.
I finally redid my page with them - as always you can check it out at http://puggimer.net/fireeaters.htm (you might have to clear your browser cache if it takes you the old page (i.e. not with an all blue background).
Also, some new pictures here:
