steam tank

original thread ↗

how do ogres kill a steam tank? if an ogre does impact hits on the tank it takes much stronger hits back killing the ogre and barely denting the tank. the only way i can see is to charge small distances which means no charge. this is really hard to do wen you being shot by everything and have cavalry up your arse. surely theres a better way to take this thing down?
Seigebreaker :)

The steam tank is hit automatically and takes D6 wounds rather then just 1!

Haha! That's one dead steamtank!

Thanks

it's still a chariot. Ironguts with Bullgorger, maneaters with Great Weapons, bruiser or tyrant at S7 for whatever reason... hell, reform yer squad into a column and make yer impact hit s7... but then you have to dake the d6 s6 hits back.

If you really don't want the return hits, remember that if ye charge from less than half yer movement, you do not cause impact hits.

the tank will usually hit where it wants to unless you aren't playing a good player. I usually lose at least a squad to it. I consider it a victory if I *only* lose one squad to it. The dang thing is 300 points. It *should* kill a squad of less than 150 points before it dies.

AFAIK, one of the many STank special rules prevetns it from taking the instant death from one S7 hit though.

The way I've beaten them in the past is to cast trollguts on a unit with my tyrant, take the charge and hope at least the tyrant is still standing in the end. If so, the tenderizer or siegerbraker will tear it apart no problem!

you are right. It is a war machine, not a chariot. it just moves and looks like a chariot.

what about taking a chance with a lot of Leadbelchers instead of charging it

My first pet gnoblar! I'll call him Bock!
With it's sats and save etc, LB's would have a hard time denting it!

hmm, what about a bruiser and a tyrant as a unit, so you don't cause impact hits.
Both with the proper weapons and it's bye steamtank

Now all we need is the 7th edition rule that said if the models are killed they don't get to fight and we WOULD be a broken army! lol

Ogre achievements: 41/101
Two characters can't form units together. You could have a maneater and a tyrant running together for this tirck though

Thanks

Lots of options

Tyrant /w Great Weapon and Beastkiller. (5 hits, 3+ to wound, deals double wounds
Tyrant /w Siegebreaker. (5 hits 2+ to wound)
Tyrant /w Thundermace (1 hit, 2+ to wound - deals D6 wounds)
Bruiser /w Tenderiser (4 hits, 3+ to woundm, deals D3 wounds)

The trick is to survive the impacthits it does =/
Heres another option, hit them with a unit of 3 maneaters with GW that 12 S 7 attacks!! Just remimber to charge at 5.5 inch away!!
It is pretty simple, I had a Tyrant w/ Siegebreaker in with a unit of bulls.  The unit of bulls protected me against the mass of shooting until we were within charge range.  I charged the steamtank with only my Tyrant (thus no impact hits) who then dealt him 19 wounds - dead steamtank.
The Stank would deal Impacthits to your Tyrant anyway (If he had any Steam Points over that is), and that before the Tyrant strikes the Stank.

And how on earth did your Tyrant /w Siegebreaker deal 19 wounds to  Steamtank!? O_o

Does the STank just deal impact hits to anyone who charges it then? Anyone at all?

Siegebreaker gets a lot bettr against units without initiative values. Check your ogre book and see how its possible.

a tyrant with longstrider, going solo, can easily get the charge on  STank - the seigebreaker does D6 wounds to a STankwith each blow (as it has initiative 0) - a massive 30 wounds is therefore a possibility :)

a lone ogre would not take impact hits if it made a charge into a STank

a group of ogres doing a bull charge would deal AND receive impact hits if they charged a STank

edit: corai beat me to it
x105 - keeping pace with my wins!

Ogre achievements: 65/101 latest: maneater (play in 5 different venues)

Latest Fantasy Result: ogre kingdoms vs. high elves - 1500 points - win!

8th edition: 105/25/12
New ogres: 36/6/5

I was born and bred in a briar patch!
My bad guys.

The Stank does not deal Impact hits on our turn, so if you charge it, it can't do anything.

I also forgot about the additional ability Siegebraker has on targets without a I value.

Cheers.
