Advice for what to buy next!

original thread ↗

Hello there,

Im looking to complete a 2000 point ogre kingdoms army.  Below I have listed the models that i currently have, and also below that is the units im thinking of using to fill out the list.  Help would be appreciated mostly in the latter part, deciding what to get next.  Ill worry about replacing substandard items later when i get to 2000 points.

Ogre Tyrant - wyrdstone necklace, Tenderizer, hvy armor
Butcher - Bangstick, Dispell Scroll
Butcher - Seigebreaker, Skullmantle

3 Bulls - 2 hand weapons, musician
3 Bulls - 2 hand weapons, musician, standard, champion (hosts the seigebreaker butcher)
2 Leadbelchers - musician
2 Leadbelchers - musician
20 Gnoblar Fighters
20 Gnoblar Fighters
9 Gnoblar Trappers

That is my current models, and it comes to 1315 points.  Below are my initial thoughts for filling it out.

4 Ironguts, standard, musician (for the tyrant, and possibly also the other butcher)
1 Scraplauncher
1 Gorger
2 Rhinox Riders - heavy armor, musician

Ironguts are pretty much a sure thing, just depends on whether i field a unit of 4 or two units of 3 etc.  The rhinox riders from forgeworld just look amazing and i think would be a great addition aswell.  Although currently not 'official' this season im pretty sure they will be getting the thumbs up for all tourneys soon.  However, if you think this isnt the case, then i probably shouldnt bother, as i dont want to have to ask permission with things in my army.  Perhaps i should wait on getting them and fill it with something else in the meantime?  The scraplauncher is potentially very fun, and i like having a warmachine available.  If dogs of war were allowed in more tourneys i would think about a cannon or something, but as i cant, its scraplauncher.  The gorger was there to fill out the remaining points bringing the list to 2000. Not that hes just a filler, i figure unbreakable and coming from table edges is probably good for something too icon_razz.

Anyway, please give me  your thoughts and suggestions!
Ironguts are the no brainer as you said, I think 2 boxes would do you well, that way you can have 6 normal ones, and have a musician and standard model for variety.

After that in my opinion its all what you like.  Proxie a few models and find out what what you want to spend money on.  I used 2 rat ogres for a few games to see if I liked gorgers.  I find spending money on Rinox Riders to be dangerous since they seem to be phasing them out.
So ou have around 700 pts left (more or less)... here is what you can get for that much, to improve your army:

1 butcher+ equipment (180 pts)
3 units of 3 IGs+banner

or

1 butcher fully equipped (180 pts)
3 Maneaters, HA and weapon choice
4 IGs, banner

cheers

Depending on your skill and desire to convert plastic models, I would go with 2 boxes of Ironguts and proxy diferent setups for them until you decide what you like best. Don't do what I did and buy 3 butcher boxes only to determine that you prefer to run butcherless armies... not that butchers are not powerful, but I find them less powerful than 3 ironguts with the way I usually play my army.

Wait until you figure out what you like, then tyr some simple conversions with the *huge* amount of bits that we get with every IG box. A little Green Stuff and you can fairly simply make every OK unit except Sabertusks, scraplauncher and Slavegiant.
Surgeon General's Warning: Following any advice or suggestions proposed in this post could be hazzardous to your win/loss ratio. The poster above has an inflated opinion of himself and a talent for sounding like he knows what he is talking about when he is actually clueless.
One or two boxes of ironguts seems like a definite then, as i do like converting, it will allow me to work them into whatever ill need.

For ikim, from your experience do you find that i need the 3rd butcher?  Each of your suggestions has him in there, im just curious i had assumed 2 would be okay, but i guess if im going the butcher route, i guess it wouldnt hurt to go all the way with it.

Are rhinox going to be phased out? id be pretty sad to hear that since they seem so cool.
I usually get 3 butchers or none at all... some others think 2 are enough, personally, I don't.
As far as the BRRs go, it depends on the tournament: some organizers allow them, some others (like here in Italy), don't.
We are wishfully thinking something will change with the summer campaign new units/mini/characters, but, as I said, it is just wishful thinking.

Butcher count all depends on the type of people you play with. Some people think 3 at 2k is kinda beardy, some have no problems with it. Depends on the armies you play against too.

You pretty much need 6 to 9 IG's as your next buy. After that I'd go with gorgers. Then you pretty much have all your bases covered, and you can start looking into fun units like scraplaunchers or giants, or give yhetees a try.
Ditto the ironguts, two units though, especially as it seems you are playing MSU.  Also I would go the gorgers!  I love those things just for the chaotic ability they throw into a game (unfortunately sometimes for you if they don't show up when you had hoped icon_frown) and opponents hate to see them come on the board.  Yhetees would be good additions too in my mind.  They move fast, have magic weapons, are very good in combat (although what ogre unit isn't?), and can move through terrain without slowing down!  I love that!  I am currently considering running two units of three to see how this will work out.  However my main opponent is often a wood elf and he loves to have trees on the board.

Thanks,
JC
Good, bad; I'm the guy with the gun!
