the mawseeker on tyrant or hunter

original thread ↗

does any think a mawseeker would be good for any of these characters in some games. has anyone tried this yet? and is it good only 10pts
it is great!!!!  if you can stomach the risk of stupidity.  it is a pretty high risk, thus the low cost.  i don't think i could take it without taking the item which allows psych test rerolls.  even then...scary.  very scary.  a tyrant drooling for only a turn eliminates all the initiative you get from your high mobility army.  feels too OnG risky to me.  i semi-retired from OnG just for a break from the wackiness.  And what did I get instead of a nice blunt instrument for a change?  A finesse army.  lol  Just my luck.

cast toothcracker on him and watch those arrows just bounce right off!

I haven't used it I don't like the risk.
I've used it occasionaly on my Bruiser, but not on a tyrant, or Hunter, too much risk involved for those two characters.
You can see my OK Gnoblog "Chasers of the Fang" Here
Perhaps on a BsB to give him the needed survivability rating ? Along with the Jade lion it would be a nice combination I would think.

Maybe a Single Maneater, so that your Kineater tyrant seigebreaker butcher and mawseeker/jade lion brusier could join HIM so that the stubborn ability would confer to the characters since they "joined the maneater unit". The butcher could drop some gut magic on the unit.
Despite being half your army in one unit holy crap would it beat the hell out of nearly everything it got in contact with, and be stupidly reliable
You cant give BSBs Big Names.. or Magic Items.. or any other weapons.. or just about anything for that matter.

I cant imagine it being useful on a Hunter, just because of the risk, but given to a Tyrant who joins a Maneater unit it could be good. Ld 9 isn't going to fail too often when its never modified. Speaking of which, I hate how Ogres have nothing in thier army that is Ld 10, other than Giants. Even their special characters aren't Ld 10... whats up with that? A giant fat slob rides around in a huge throne carried by Gnoblars covered in gold and throwing coins around everywhere and his troops aren't motivated enough for him to have Ld 10? Huh?

Anyway... that was slightly off topic...

I use it regularly, though I generally use the jade lion too. Mawseeker + rockbiter mean that even the ubiquitous str 7 chariot breakers only wound you on a 4+.

Str 5 needing a 6+ to wound (including gut spell)? Str 3 useless (ditto)? I'm in.
My tyrant looks something like this

Tyrant: mawseeker, heavy armour, ironfist, jade lion, gut maw and sword of might

He goes in a unit of ironguts so that he doesn't really need a ward save as he has ablative armour around him.  Not many enemies will be able to even come close to beating him in a challenge because of his hefty stats.
Neither Tyrant, nor hunter, but maby on a bruisher

I thought you could equip a BSB with a magic weapon, single-hand weapon, armor, talisman (and big names), etc, OR a magic banner, but not both.
Always take a jade loin when you use the mawseeker big name.
My campaign general has Mawseeker and carries the Jade Lion. So far, so good.
And the Baby Ogre said: "Someone's been eating my Gnoblars too! And they've eaten them all up!"

My gnobbos are called Dutch, Dillon, Mac, Blain and Billy

You can take magic items(talismans, enchanted items, big names, bloodline powers) magic weapons (one handed only) it just prevents you from carrying any magic standard.

Whoever said differently needs to do a tad bit of research.

What is "rockbiter"?  Do you mean the spell toothcracker?
