Ankenhara, tomb queen and mother to khalida neferher, looked out onto the field of battle. From her vantage point, the tomb queen could see her glorious soldiers standing at attention. Icons held proudly aloft, fluttering in the hot desert air. She then looked out onto the enemy army, invaders, despoilers all. They wished to raid her necropolis, but that she would not allow. Her archers had already strung their bows and waited for her command. With a silent rising of her hand she could hear ancient bones creaking as the archers aimed. In deathly silence, and with a quick motion downwards, the sky came alive with arrows. She saw many of the enemy warriors fall while they prayed. Satisfied she joined her tomb guard in the march to the middle of the khemrian line.
Ankenhara ran her hand across the pommel of her curved blade. Made of solid steel, inlaid with bronze and lapis lazuli, it had tasted the blood of many foes. Ankenhara had mastered the use of this blade many centuries ago, remembering a time when she was still flesh and blood. Again she looked up with hatred at the enemy army, wishing she could be alive again, and not stuck in this cold uncompromising world as a walking corpse. Now starting to rise, some of the enemy mounted fine steeds.
A wailing sound could be heard, as the catapults fired, their charges impacting onto the enemy formations, wreaking havoc. Many enemy soldiers turned to run, but were scythed down by clouds of arrows as they fled, the liche priests urging the bowmen to quicken their firing speed. With a short, fluid stroke of her weapon, Ankenhara ordered the advance ..
Striding thunderously into battle, the mighty bone giant kentep smashed his opponents from their saddles with his heavy weapons with uncompromising savageness. Before long, Ankenhara could see him engaging another unit in the flank. She knew that he would smash his way through the enemys flank quickly and before long the invaders line would crumble. Coming back to reality, Ankenhara parried a quick thrust from a knights short sword and slashed back with glee. The great, bronze blade tore a bloody rent in her foes armour, cutting him in half. As the lower part of his corpse slid off his mount ankenhara took a moment to decapitate him, as despoilers were always a good supply for her catapults.
Her tomb guards were doing wondrously well, and with a few arcane words they became even deadlier. She had bestowed the incantation of smiting to her bodyguard, and with suddenness faster than time itself they slashed at their foes with renewed vigor. From what she could see her army had taken few casualties, and those that had been dispatched rose again under the commands of the liche priests.
Ankenhera, after dispatching her last foe with a quick stab to the chest. Gazed upon the field of battle. Many foes had come to despoil her lands, but few were left. The corpses of kenteps earlier foes were now being reduced to gleaming bone by carrion birds, the bones then disappearing into the great dunes. Yet there was something that did not feel right, like something was amiss. Then she heard something, like the pounding of hooves. But how could that be? She thought. All the enemy cavalry have been destroyed. Then ankenhara spied them, coming up on her flank was a large unit of knights, adorned with all manner of talismans displaying golden cups to beautiful women. She then guessed her son, Nehekir, commander of her artillery, had too as a large amount of flaming skulls crashed into the flank of the knights. As the wailing skulls impacted Ankenhara witnessed what looked like the enemy general, being smashed from his saddle, along with a decent amount of the knights. The rest, unperturbed at their leaders death, continued to charge. With one word from Ankenharas lips her tomb guard turned and as one created a solid shield wall. As the enemy rammed into it, their lances broke upon the solid shields of the tomb guard, and as they went to draw their swords, they were cut down by the great, curved blades of the skeletal warriors.
Once again the battle had been won, and as she went to order the collection of the enemys skulls, Akenhara wondered how many times these foolish humans had to invade her domain to learn the price of their folly.
