2000pt starter army

original thread ↗

Heya guys and gals,

Seriously considering starting up an Ogre Kingdoms army.  After reading through the book a couple of times I love the flavor of the army.  I am trying to tailor a list for "begining" my collection.  I am hoping that with this list I can expand to my style after playing some games.  Let me know what you suggest I add and drop so I can get a true feel for what I'll need in the future.  I have been thinking of dropping some gnoblars for Tooth Gnoblars, how often do you use your tooth gnoblars to success?

Bruiser - Cathayan Sword, Heavy Armor, Wyrdstone Necklace, Longstrider, Luck Gnoblar, General.
**As a starter army they don't have a "true" Tyrant yet, this is purely for fluff reasons.  I know most people would take the tenderizer, I think those 50 points are better spent elsewhere**

Butcher 1 - Bangstick, Dispel Scroll

Butcher 2 - Halfling Cookbook, Tooth Gnoblar

Butcher 3 - Dispel Scroll, Power Stone
**Ok, I have found in many other games that you need 2 scrolls in a 2k point game.  I believe that with 3 butchers I will be able to get off an average of 2.5 spells per round against magic heavy armies.  The power stone is there to get off that much needed spell in times of dire need.**

Bull Unit 1 - 3 strong, Iron Fist, Light Armor, Bellower

Bull Unit 2 - 3 strong, Iron Fist, Light Armor, Bellower

Ironguts Unit 1 - 3 strong, Bellower

Iron Guts Unit 2 - 3 strong, Bellower

Gnoblar Fighter Unit 1 - 29 Strong

Gnoblar Fighter Unit 2 - 28 Strong

Gnoblar Trappers - 8 strong

Yhetee Unit 1 - 3 strong

Yhetee Unit 2 - 3 strong

Hmm, I do think you should include a Tyrant, no matter what you say about fluff. hehe....

I would have get rid of one of the Yhetee units. If you don't play on tables with alot of terrain I think it will be hard to use'm right. You have to make use of the Scale Terrain rule if you want them to work properly. I would have cut down the Gnoblars units to 20. A bit easier to manouever.
Then I think Halfling Cookbook and Powerstone is a waste. Give on of them Skullmantle instead.

For the points you get from removing the units/items mentioned I would have uppgraded the Bruiser and get a nother Irongut unit.
I like it, but the gnoblar units are too big. Make them each US 20, or one US 30 and get a champ for one of your Iguts units. How are you planning to use them- a screen or ranked?

Have you considered the greedy fist instead of Longstrider for your bruiser? A 4+ AS with 5+ ward with a re-roll is pretty hard, more so when combined with regeneration or +1T! Not to mention the fist's eating abilities...You already have 2 M7 units (which he can't join) and he's not much good on his own. A nice trick also is to take 2 sword-gnoblars with him as they strike at his improved WS and I, even if they are S2!

Just my tuppence!
Ok, revised it up a bit, threw in a tyrant after relooking everything over.  I like the second group of Yhetee even on boards without alot of terrain just for the extra 2" on the march through any terrain.  I didn't realize that the sword gnoblars used his ws (I read the codex entry wrong... some days readin is phundemental )  Anyways, here is an adjusted list.

Tyrant - Cathayan Sword, Heavy Armor, Wyrdstone Necklace, Gut Maw, Luck Gnoblar, 2 Sword Gnoblar, General.
**Switched this to the tyrant... I know most people would take the tenderizer, I think those 50 points are better spent elsewhere**

Butcher 1 - Bangstick

Butcher 2 - Dispel Scroll

Butcher 3 - Dispel Scroll
**Ok, I have found in many other games that you need 2 scrolls in a 2k point game. I believe that with 3 butchers I will be able to get off an average of 2.5 spells per round against magic heavy armies. Removed the powerstone, tooth gnoblar and cookbook.**

Bull Unit 1 - 3 strong, Iron Fist, Light Armor, Bellower

Bull Unit 2 - 3 strong, Iron Fist, Light Armor, Bellower

Ironguts Unit 1 - 3 strong, Bellower

Iron Guts Unit 2 - 3 strong, Bellower

Gnoblar Fighter Unit 1 - 20 Strong

Gnoblar Fighter Unit 2 - 20 Strong

Gnoblar Trappers - 8 strong

Yhetee Unit 1 - 3 strong

IMO Yhetees are poo, 22pts more than a full kitted out bull, your 6 Yhetees could be exchanged for 9 bulls with IF and LA.
Gimme A unit, any Unit, and My Tyrant'll deal too 'em!!
