Ogres vs Tomb Kings

original thread ↗

I just had a great 2000pt game with a friends Tomb King. I won't bore yea with another story line battle report, I'll just give you the hight lights.

First mistake I didn't line my Rhinox riders to charge his pikemen I was worried about how many attacks he would get. But they would have crushed them easily.

Second misktake I didn't counter his magic with my dispell scrolls I left it to my dispell dice. And I was rolling badly! As a result my Rhinox Riders got smashed with alot of screaming catipult shoot. Leaving my Thunderlord with one wound left and wounding another Rhinox by 4 ouch!!!! Next mistake

Third mistake Getting my Rhinox stuck in combat with the Tomb Guard who eventully cracked them with the help of of his Tomb King.

Things I did right Crushed his flank. Killing of his Lord.  And Tieing up his light calvery. As well as holding of most of his magic after round one.

He ended up wining by about 400pts by running away he broke a unit of bulls and over ran them to keep them from getting charged in the flank by my leadbelchers. And breaking my rhinox in the last round. It was a really close game and I thought I had him until the last round. So Rhinox riders watch out for those Tomb Guards.
2 things I hate about TKs.

1 - screaming skull catapults shooting twice per turn each

2 - spells that always go off

The rest I can deal with.  The screaming skull cat make you burn dispel dice or wind up taking panic tests.  And spells that auto-cast are just a pain.

Regardless, yeah, rhinox riders should crush just about anything in the TK army if they're healthy.  Get those boys active early and good things will follow.

Check out my Rhinox Riders
Screaming Catapults are a pain in the *beeeeppp*... though ogres have what you need to overcome such demonic thingy: gorgers; trappers; tusks...
What I really fear, about TK is the cascade of souls... these things really bug me... Gosh!!!
Oh, well, thanx for sharing.
cheers

I don't run my Rhinox list with a gorger but I do feild two units of trapper but my oppent is smart and took them out in the fist and second round. My main problem was not burning up my dispell scrolls durning the first round I try to just use my dispell dice wich let me down bad!
My regular opponent field tomb kings and I feel gorgers are the way to go to take out that pesky catapult. You must remember however, that if only the crew are killed and not the war machine itself. that the crew can be raised. My favorite tactic is to take out all of the ancillary units first i.e. any cavalry, small blocks of skellies, ushabti, tomb scorpions etc. Then I hit the big blocks of skellies and/or tomb guard, they are too much of a tar pit and death comes upon swift wings for ogres caught in and extended melee.

Now thats the truth. They can hold up a unit until Sunday.
