Basically as far as army background goes it has so far only developed to include a Bruiser (Who is the Tyrant in games large enough for Lord level models to be included) who is a mute. However, even though this certain character cannot talk he is still much stronger and fearsome than the ordinary ogres. He has been known to rip out the tongues of those who would dare challenge him. (I pity an Ogre who cannot taste his food) The main bulk of my army will be themed with Maori tattoos in tribute to the native people of my country (and because their tattoos are rather good for warlike Ogres)

I think Ogres will always have problems at 1000pts, because you can't really get enough of them to make them truly competitive. High Elves have the same problem.

I'd suggest that one way to deal with it is to try to keep everything cheap, and get as many units as possible so you don't get outmanoeuvred and outflanked.
Currently you have just 3 main units, but if you remove the Standards, the Bellowers, 4 Gnoblars, and give the Bulls extra hand weapons instead of Ironfists you could bring your Bulls and Ironguts up to six of each. Then split these units into two, and that gives you 5 units to play with. You've got a much better chance of being able to flank your enemy now, and it gives him/her more targets to worry about. You can afford to take more risks too, your units are cheap enough that you can bait the enemy and you won't be giving out vps from captured standards either.

Additionally, I'd give the Butcher a Dispel Scroll instead of the Cookbook for some extra magic defence.
Your Bruiser might be OK with just a great weapon, the Tenderiser's usefulness is reduced dramatically at 1000pts as you tend to see much fewer multi-wound monsters on the battlefield (some you can only get at 2000pts due to needing a Lord). You could perhaps look at giving magic armour, and a luck Gnoblar is always handy.

Cheers!
