Repeater Crossbow

as I am a student of mechanical engineering, I needed an idea for one of my 'open' assignments. And I thought to myself: could I make a repeater crossbow?

now I know some historical armies used to have some crossbows that could fire rapidly, but I wanted to make something cooler, preferably with a pump-action loading mechanism like a shotgun.
so here it is. note that I have paid very little atttention to the appearance, so the thing looks a bit chunky. but it was all about the mechanisms inside. (for which you have to be a strong man to operate, but it works)

I personally would make the channels have a flat top and a sloped bottom edge, somewhere around a 20 or 30 degree angle.  This way, when your cartridge pushes up, the string of the bow is forced down to it's home position.  You also would not need a mechanism to hold it backwards as simply pulling the trigger would bring it backwards and into the next slot for firing.  Looks really good man.  I wish my skills in AutoCAD were half that   Other then that it all looks solid from an engineering standpoint.

erm, I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean. But I think you're suggesting to use the movement of the cartridge to pull the string back, right?
but wouldn't that just apply a lot of pressure onto the cartridge, so that it won't go up at all?

right now, the pump action pulls the string back (at double the speed of the pump) and the gears are timed in such a way that start moving as soon as the string is out of the way.

Far that looks impressive and from knowledge of crossbows what you may have achieved is quite a feat as there are no repeating crossbows produced by any current manufacturer. If you ever get the project from drawing board to production you should speak to these guys who are the leading suppliers of crossbows in the UK I am sure they could help you sell it, I for one would buy it.
