Ok, this is going to be a mini-gnoblog for some khorne themed ogres I'm working on.  I am doing a team battle with a khorne BoC player, it's a 2000 point army where we each get 2 characters, 2+ core, 0-2 special, 0-1 rare and one lord between the two of us.  This is what my list looks like-

Looking forward to seing this gnoblog progress If I were you I would take the second option. Then again if you are going against an army like tomb kings(lots of chariots) I would stick with the first choice.

gORGUS i am very interested in seeing how you convert up the khorne ogres here.. always nice to see different styles and what other peoples interpretations of the chaos gods or even just modeling in general are.. and the larger, and more known type projects ( chaos gods ) always make for interesting show.. cant wait to see how you go with this considering how good the gut plate looks already mate..

I'm looking forward to this, I enjoy the team tournaments, so this stuff is always fun to do.    The ogres I'll be adding will be all plastic, GS, BS, and bitz boxed out Dragon Ogres.  So I have about 237 points worth of work, along with a new khorngor bannerman, and objectives.  Each 1000 pt army has to have an objective, mine will probably be a heavily loaded gnoblar carrying a chest and probably will add a plastic khorne icon or something.  We are going to run with themed banners also, well I only have one banner so.

What? The coolest beastman army on the net with something, that might become the coolest ogre army on the net? Now you only need the coolest chaos dwarfs on the net, which are made by either me, Corai, Executive evi or Xander, and the coolest wood elf army on the net made by Mike Butcher. If you united these 4 armies, it could rock!

  

I know of a really good painted dwarf army about an hour and 20 min from me by a tatoo'd skrewdriver, he's in the same town as Butcher.  You have this whole group of us that are all in the same general region.  You know the cheeseheads will one day rule the world.  Mike "The King of Nurgle" Butcher will next be doing a.....well I shouldn't say.....well think along the lines of the crusades, he won't be doing wood elves that's best left to the likes of a Shawn "Kuma" Kilgore, which I got to play against a couple of weeks ago at a tourney, he's got the goods when it comes to High Elves, Wood Elves, and Eldar.

Dammit!  I looked at the beasts again and I forgot just how freakin' well done they are.  Looks like I got some work ahead of me.  Here's what I've been workin' on, more gut plates.





I've got one more to make for the leadbelchers, these are going to be the only major conversion for them, other than some added bitz.  Gotta keep some stuff simple.

looking good so far are you going to make any with the mark of khorne on them?

I'm not going to get too crazy with these guys.  I'm going to paint their skin grey so they fit in with the rest of my ogres, cause I may need the to bulk up the Bonemaws, my current army, for the singles tournie.  I'm going to use a red and brass color scheme with their clothes and equipment rather than the extensive use of khorne's symbol, though it may pop up here and there on the bulls and guts.

Yep, I'm loving those gut plates.  Those are great looking.  As to the khorne symbols I would probably recommend just painting them on here and there.  Maybe carve in a symbol or two also similar to what is on bloodletters.  Chaos looking weapon swaps could also make them look cool, I think Ogres look good and chaotic in red armor, so I think you'll have no problem topping mine:

These are fantastic. Ur modelling and painting skills are fantastic. One thing that might help distinguish ur Khornate Ogres without going overboard on conversion would be to give them all horns. It'd give them the daemonic/raider look generallyt associated w. Khorne in my opinion.

looking good. The marauder gut plates are great. How do you get those rivets so round? is it just a case of rolling out a sausage of GS and cutting thin slices of it when cured? The standing ogre looks great. I saw one in this month's white Dwarf (in the Mike anderson (I think) showcase) and it really alters the mood and feel of the plastic models.

Nice, the gut plates are coming along really well.  I also dig the standing pose.  Good stuff.

There's a couple of ways you can make those rivets Corai.  One is as you say cut thin slices, which I normally use plastic rod so that I get a more uniform diameter.  Another is to add a small ball of GS to where you want the rivet (usually I put a small dimple in the sculpt if I am going to add them with GS) take out a tube and press the tube over it, withdraw the tube and scalpel away the excess GS.  Another way is to sculpt the plate, then use a tube and indent the plate with the tube, this will give you a recessed rivet, probably the quickest way of doing them.

Now for one of my contributions, here's a low res pic of the bannerman that I will be using in my Khorngors alongside the other bannerman for my Khorngors.  The banner sports our common theme for the team-up, with some quick Sharpie action.


I made the banner interchangeable with 1/16-inch brass tube and then used a long piece of straightpin to pin them into the end of the tube, because I plan to use this guy with the other one to rep different Magic banners in my singles competition.  Simple pinned swap and I am ready to go.  Also makes transporting a heck of lot easier.

I dig that standing dude.  Cool.

The team event requires each of us to have an objective marker. Since I am teaming with some ogres, what better to use than a heavily packed gnoblar. Need to clean the Khorne symbol up a bit, its the result of some quick dremel work. Beastmen like loot for there herdstone's so its all about the loot.





Now you may say what loot, that looks like clear jelly, well its hot melt glue. After I get him painted up I will add some gold pieces using glitter that I will weather up with a series of color washes, along with a skull or two. The Base is Elmer's glue, bits of cork, sprinkled with HO Scale R&R ballast and Italian Seasoning (mmmm tasty). The glue areas will be painted in some lava looking colors to give that sort of mystical looking bloody Khorne demon effect of something sort of like a summoning beakon.

The standing bull is very cool.. and it does give that look of pissed and in charge feel to him.. very nice work on it and the chain/leather harness.. between the 2 of you this will be one heck of an army.. and we demand a group shot from the tourni.. should be quite the spectical to see how your 2 armies merge into one and whatnot..

Started working on my Tyrant, here are some step by step photos of how I built up his armor.  I let the putty set up for at least two hours between each step.

Here's the base plate

The rest of the tyrant is going to consist of -

-the hooded head with horns added to the helmet

-big 'ol khorny shoulder plates

-a shaggoth great axe

-and a possible back banner akin to the tyrant on the cover of the army book, but that idea is up in the air yet

Tomorrow I'll start adding the details to his gut plate.

I like that gut plate mate.. very large and mean looking.. same with the leg armor..

Going to be one beefy model when done..

I'm really liking the brown stuff, much nicer for hard edges, especially since you can file it once it sets up.  It's a little tricky at first, but once your used to it, it's not too bad.

If you're ever looking for an easy weapon swap for a tyrant, the shaggoth axe is pretty much identical to the tyrant great weapon.  The only thing is that both the tyrant arms and the shaggoth hands have nobs, so you need to cut them off and pin them, not a big deal since it's a perfect fit otherwise.

not bad at all, i like the head especially, although the gut looks slightly plain, it needs to lool like a material rather than a lump.

looking better and better. I love the horned head (are they from Be'Lakor?). And I'm guessing the gut is going to have the army symbol emblazoned on it? If so that will look phenomenal!

Is ur Tyrant gonna be spiky in any way? 'Cos the wonderfully impractical-but-cool look of armour covered in spikes could suit a big horned Ogre quite well.

There may well be some spikes in the future, on the shoulders perhaps, we'll see.  The green stuff is fileable, but not as well as the brown, I've been trying a mix of the two, which works pretty decent also. 

The tyrant is looking amazing so far. I can not wait to see it done and painted. Keep up the good work.

Well, you know green stuff is a bit rubbery when set up, but a little easier to work with than brown stuff.  Brown stuff sets uo nice and hard, but is a little trickier to work, so a mix gives you a bit of a compromise.  A lot of this I've read about on the mini-painters forum.  They have lots of nice tutorials.

Thanks guys!  I'm looking at the khorne hero on foot for inspiration, I like the "one shoulder pad bigger then the other" look.  Once he's finished, his axe blade will visually balance the model out, as it will be on his right.

ah, I hadn't made that connection beforte now but I can definatley see the khorne lord on foot inspiration there. Will you make a base of skulls for this guy too?

damn those shoulder pieces are looking nice mate.. same with the big horns.. though is the axe the main weapon? or an additional hand weapon? looks small though might just be the horns making it look small by comparison.. back banner might be too much though depending on the overall position of the model like Corai stated.. maybe a khorne gnoblar running alongside him with it might work though?

gORCUS, have you experimented with a heavy blue mix in your GS? You can get very similar results as with brown (although I gotta say, you are doing an INCREDIBLE job with the brown!)

I too have mixed the green/brown, it does give a nice consistency. I ran out of brown a year ago and never got more, I found that you can file down GS if you scrape with a knife blade, I've gotten some sharp edges that way. Just some thoughts, keep up the good work!

He's a Tyrant...the biggest, baddest mofo around. Anything that makes hime look more massive and intimidating would make any Ogre proud. Least that's what I say. Functional? Who cares! Practical? Like an Ogre would care!

Well the results are in gameplay-wise, haven't see the tabulated standings yet.

WHFB Team-up:

Game 1: Dave and Scott Rushford, Zion, IL, two of my opponents from the day before in the singles comp. Imagine that High Elves and them damn Wood Elves again, my fifth game of the weekend against them pointy eared freaks. The ogres get pretty muched wiped out, and end up leaving most every thing to me. Not good.  Enough already with the freakin' elves. sheesh. Kill the high elves, finally killed them damn wardancers, but to much dead. Loss.

Game 2: We play two of Ryan's opponents from the day before this time. Orcs and Goblins oh my lord. This was the most fun and the bloodiest damn battle I have been part of. There were only a couple of units left at the end of the game and 3 heroes. Combat was huge. Two great looking team armies. Lots of laughter every round, lots of jeering, spectator audience and Adepticon's staff of photographers. Best game by far all weekend. The Gobbo fanatics were hilarious. Best moment for me was the absolute unthinkable, I charged a unit of under half strength Big'un orcs with my 30 pts of hounds beat them in combat and ran them down. In the end though we lost.

Game 3: Beasts and orcs. Tons of chariots, just not very stout against all of our Cause Fear.  Big win for us, wiped them out.

The other locals from our state:
Johnny "skrewdriver" and Joe R's East Lustria Trading Co. went 3-0 and were Overall Champs. Took home around 750 bucks worth of prizes.

Dave Bednarek's Tastes Like Sushi samurai dwarves and ogres went 1-1-1 but pulled 15 of the 90 Tourney's Choice votes to win Best Theme.

The Corpse Eaters went 1-2 and were the only team to pull Favorite Opponent from all 3 opponents. Guess we're good sports.  That and we continuously joked about our armies performance and dice rolls.  Lots of giddy laughter.  That could be the lack of sleep due to skrewdriver keeping us up most of the nights.

Best Theme Army to a well deserved Jack-O-Lantern pumpkin chuckin' tree spirts and night goblin army.  Definite halloween feel.

Best Paint went to an Unclean Nurgle army, much deserved, I know the youngster that put part of them together. He did really well on his half.

Ryan took some pics, as did the Adepticon crew, so there'll be some stuff showing up.

Sorry to hear you didn't win the best painted or theme but it sounds like you guys had some great fun. Gongratulations on the favourite opponent.

Nothing to be sorry about, those that won deserved it unlike past years.  Theme is one thing that is always a bit tough to coordinate.  There were a lot of really nicely painted armies, both in the team and singles.  My beastmen normally are going to be in the top 5% of the well painted armies, the armies that beat me in the Singles were definitely as good, if not better.  So it does not bug me, I'm there to have a good time.  Actually come to think of it, it actually makes me feel better that there are so many more people really putting forth effort to play fine looking armies.  That to me is something I love to see.

It probably is the end of this particular collaboration, between gORCUS and myself.  I enjoyed it even though I really only made a marker, donated some parts for his marker, wrote the fluff, and the Dragon Ogres for the event.  Anyone want to see the fluff let me know, I will post it. 

Adepticon right now is the only major event that does a team contest that I am aware of in the midwest U.S.  I can tell you its there most popular event at Adepticon.  I did not see the final tally of WHFB teams, but they had 360 people playing the 40k team event the day before and only a 160 playing the 40k Singles.  Hopefully GW takes note, be neat to see a GT with a team aspect like this playing all scenarios instead of straight up pitched battle.  I think gorcus was going to continue the Khorne Ogre theme though. 

Now its time to get ready for the next major tourney Midwest Rampage in first part of May.  gORCUS, Mike Butcher, Joe R, and myself will be attending that.  That one is 2250 pts Singles, with a 250 point Dogs of War regiment being needed for your army for one special game.

OK, sorry it took so long, but I got like 6 hours of sleep all weekend and had to work early Monday.  I'm finally starting to feel normal again.

It was an awesome event and I highly recommend it to any ogres here in the midwest US, I'll definitly be going again next year.

A shot from the best game of the weekend, our opponents just sent three fanatics sailing through their own unit to take out the dragon ogres.

This is pretty much it for the Corpse Eaters, they are going to become a khorne worshipping contingent of the Bonemaw tribe, but the stuff I learned making them is going to live on in some ogre slaves/ servants of the Dawi Zharr, who are going to be my next army. 

I'm going to delete the bulk of this gnoblog and post a summary to clean things up a bit and either let it sink or re-name it fot the Bonemaw tribe who I'll be adding to periodically to try new army variations.  Thanks for all the support guys!

Well, I've been getting ripped on alot for just doing ogres all the time, and I am kind of sick of losing all the time.  Even in the game were we won a major victory, my entire army, except my tyrant, was wiped out.  So I'm thinking it's about time to try something different, though I will probably go back to the Lazarghs eventually as the idea has been rolling around in my skull for quite some time, or just work on them at the same time, I'm not sure yet.

My future projects are going to be-

Adding to my current ogre army
Chaos dwarves in such a way as I end up with a chaos dwarf army, a chaos dwarf themed dwarf army and an OnG army
Orks, my first 40k project (I'll probably hold off until the new codex is released)
ASOFAI themed models to eventually form a Lannister themed empire army
Lazarghs (someday)

Something else I got from A-con was that I really need to step up my painting if I want to win best painted army and painting contests in general.  The competition was seriously stiff.

Okay, sorry it took so long (a bit burnt out from adepticon; 3 days, 7 games, 6 hours of sleep and a lot of beer), but I finally have finished pictures of the ogre half of the Corpse Eater tribe.  I've got a lot of pictures, so I'll split this into a couple of posts.

First off, non-ogres and leadbelchers-

Technically not part of the CE's, this guy was the messenger for the Bonemaws, my singles army, which was made special for A-con also (the messenger, not the army).




Here is the objective marker I made, we each had to make one for the team.  I followed PPC's lead with these fellas.

So there you have it, the Corpse Eaters. 

Wow, really nice work. I love how the colour scheme really ties it all together, and I have a lot of respect for you using so much red, it's hard to do well, but you can see here that it is worth it when done preoperly, and it works really well with the metallic red armour.

And I really like all the conversions, the bellower is great and I like all of the coverted standards. Great job on the Tyrant too, I love the tusks and the gutplate.

Have to hand it to you mate.. the colors worked well ( not surprising ) but the sculpts look professional.. if someone just came into the game and saw your models they would be heading to GW asking for the Khorne Ogres.. top shelf material mate.. too bad you wont be continuing on with them.. gORCUS, man between you and PsychosisPC, my mind is almost completely made up to change my army theme. Outstanding work on all your models, I among those who will be sad to see this army go!

Is it a 1000 point force?  Because regardless, outstanding work gORC, really a pleasure to see all together.  Some wonderful conversions, the 'bellowing' irongut being tops.  I also like that you sculpted support straps to most all of the shoulder pads, instead of just sticking them on haphazardly.

Your army is one of the most awsome I've seen. If I should give you one advice for a later army, it would be:

Try to keep drybrushing at a minimum, but that is my only critique!

I think it goes without saying that this army looks increadible. So I'll comment on the bonemaw messenger instead which I also love! The use of the gnobbo and plaguemonk (?) parts to make this guy work great and the freehand on the 'message' are amazing. It gives me hope for sabertusk riding gnobbos in the future!

The messenger is a spider rider command body and arms with a gnobbo head and plaguemonk bitz.  I was pretty happy with him, glad you like it.

The army looks great gORCUS, pity u aren't carrying on with it.

i would love to see some more pics of those dragon ogres they look fantastic.i would also like to use your idea as a base for a few zoat conversions.
