The results of my first Rogue Tournament

original thread ↗

Well I fought in my first rogue tournament last Friday. But we where paired up so I won’t go into the details of all three battles. I was ask by the store manager if I would mind being paired up with a new player, I said sure why not, and boy was he GREEN. First battle we got a draw, on second battle we lost, the third battle was a draw. My partner was playing High Elfs with a lord on a dragon and one mage with no dispel scrolls. This cost us a lot. Plus he wanted to know what we should do but didn’t like what I was saying so I let him do what he wanted and just shook my head when things went splat. I think in the next tournament I will take two Butchers we where pounded with magic in all three games. My Rhinox Riders didn’t see two much action the first two games. In the first game vs Chaos Dwarf’s and Orc’s, my partners Heavy Calvary blocked my Rhinox Riders. I finally got them two where the remaining two could charge when time ran out Dam it!  Second round they fell to screaming catapults! This is where the extra magic protection could have helped. We where facing a team of Tomb Kings and Wood Elf’s. Lots and lots of magic, plus my partner thinks that his lord on a dragon can kill anything and goes flying of to get killed. Third battle was against Wood Elf’s and Dark Elf’s can you say need more magic!!!!  My Rhinox rides finally got into action, charging down some spearmen who fled and where ran down, then reformed and smashed a group of 12 Dryads. Mean while my 3 Maneaters and Tyrant held up a large group of witch elf’s (don’t know what there called) eventually killing them and their assassin off.  The assassin died in a challenge with my Tyrant.  Another high light was my Trappers taking out the Wood Elf’s Lord. Other than that his Archers took out 2 units of screening bulls 3 each and my partners light Calvary and his heavy infantry and Sea Guard. We just missed a victory by about 40 points. But that’s life. I had a lot of fun and that was the most important part. Things I ‘m thinking about for next time are:
1. Taking two butchers because there’s a lot of magic in this club.
2. Get those Rhinox in to combat quickly and protect them from magic.
3. Hunters can stand toe to toe with a Treeman with a tenderizer! I just wish he was stubborn. And always take the kittys I ran with out them this time so I could pivot and shoot if there was a target of opportunity. But when it came I rolled a 1 twice.
4. I think next time I will use my Gorger. Just to make them wonder.
Well, you had fun, and as you pointed out, it is the most important thing.
For the noob co-player, lets just hope he learned something (all of us were beginners, at some point).
I really suggest taking at least 2 thifstones: and giving them to your tyrant that goes in your best unit (well, not the Rhinox riders). this way, the butchers can concentrate on dispelling all the spell against other units.
I stopped, in a 1500 pt battle, skaven magic, this way.
Don't count too much on gorgers: they are awsome, but they are not battle winners.
Good luck on the next rounds.
cheers
Ikimik Tyrant sal-eats you

Thanks for the reply Ikim, I thinks I'm going to take the same list and try it out in next months tournament, when we are not playing pairs. That was a nasty surpise by the store. Although I might make alittle change to add the thief stones sound like a good idea. And I won't be count on my Gorger, but it can be a good wild card. And I think my partner did learn alot, I just hope he had some fun. He didn't look to happy at the end of the night.
