Farmer's Rust Experiments

original thread ↗

So I haven't had much motivation to sit down and concentrate on things for a prolonged period of time these days due to the humidity, and so decided to play about with different rust techniques.

I can be quite indecisive when deciding on a colour scheme for a mini (or the next 200), so I'd appreciate your feedback on which method looks the best.

I'm new to painting rust but have come up with the following 15 results using a variety of techniques (thanks to the guys that have given me advice here and over on CN).

Cheers

In case anyone is interested in replicating any of the schemes, here are the painting steps:

BC = Base coat, DB = Dry brush, ST = Stipple, OB = Over brush, FL = Flick, HL = Highlight, W = Wash, L = Layer

All of these were done on a Vallejo Black Surface Primer.

1. ST Mournfang / ST Ryza / OB Leadbelcher / W Agrax / HL Ironbreaker
2. BC Leadbelcher / ST Mournfang / ST Ryza / W Nuln / ST Leadbelcher / W Agrax / HL Ironbreaker

4. BC Leadbelcher / W Mournfang 1:2 Water / W Previous mix + 1/4 Troll Slayer Orange / DB & HL Ironbreaker

I like number 5 and8
My Giant Blog

I think any would look good.  Personally I like the shields best, but I think it's because the of the way you did the highlights (seems more natural on the shields)
5 and 8 caught my eye but honestly I like them all. A mix wouldn't be bad looking in a unit I would think.

Cheers for the feedback chaps!

Numbers 5, 11 & 8 seemed to be the most liked versions (over three forums) in that order. I've just put together a few test minis today for trying the most liked two plus a third which will be a mix of the two, as I like some people's ideas of using more than one version.

I'll post pics when they're done. 8)

Thats really funny. I was about to say that 5 & 8 looked neat. Then I find other people felt the same!

GJ Farmer, turned out really good.
