Prices

original thread ↗

So, I am really disappointed right now.  The GW public statements have said they plan to offer easier pathways to enter the hobby, lower price points, and yet they are doing the opposite.  Aside from the AoS starter box being a good deal only if you got it at the steep discount offered on Amazon , and of course given that you like the Sigmarines, they really seem to be jacking the prices higher and higher without any clear improvement in quality, design, or quantity.  I had plans to expand into a new army after the starter set but the khorne models are all getting more and more expensive and I already have a space marine army and don't want one for fantasy(oh and the prices are ridiculous)
It's ridiculous...how can they expect to get any new players (including old Warhammer players) when they're charging the prices they are.
Australian prices have always been high, but $170 for 10 Medieval Space Marine models is just not affordable.

If I wanted to pay those sorts of prices, I'd be getting things custom made through one of the many online 3D printing companies around these days. Games Workshop are cutting off their nose to spite their face, and they think they're plastic surgeons because of it.
It's sad, and depressing, and is why I've given up on Warhammer.
GW has always been expensive on a per model count basis. In the not too distant past, you got a solid quality model, fluff backing it, and the ability to play in GW tournaments for your money. Now you pretty much get a solid quality model for a huge increase in cost.

Its really hard to justify buying GW models unless you like the specific model. You tend to get 3-4 times as many models if you buy from Mantic vs GW. The models do have a different character but quantity has a certain quality of its own.

Admittingly, you can play AoS with 3 models and its pretty hard to play Kings of War without more than that, but AoS's cost of entry isn't much better than it used to be.
