I hear a lot about AoS and players saying that it is liberating to not worry about point costs and to put some minis down for fun narrative games. I like AoS, but what stopped you from doing this with earlier versions of Warhammer.
GW has stated many times in White Dwarf (when it was cool), and I believe even in the main rule books, that you can pretty much do what you want, and that the rules are just a starting point. They even say on page 3 of the 8th edition book in the sidebar that you should add your own ideas.
I think people have lost a lot of their creativity and are afraid to stray from what is given to them. Let us break out of this mentality regardless of what game we all choose to play.
