Azyr Composition System

original thread ↗

My club is using this comp system for an event this weekend. I was just wondering if anyone has used it yet and how it worked out. If you haven't used it, take a look at it and let me know what you think. We are playing 15 point games, which ends up being a Tyrant, a Butcher, 2 MF cav, 3 Leadbelchers, 6 Ironguts, and 9 Bulls for me. 22 models in total and 99 wounds. Let me know what you all think.

So I glanced through this thing. It actually doesn't look too terribly bad. There were one or two iffy bits but given how simple it is (and what we currently have) I'm not complaining.

I would give it a go.
I'll let everyone know how it goes after tomorrow. The only thing that has me a bit concerned is that I don't believe we will be using sudden death rules. I'm pretty sure it's not a game breaker for me, but I know I'm fielding 22 models and the other, non-Ogre players, will be fielding 50-70. All in all, there should be fairly evenly matched games and I'm looking forward to it.

The comp worked pretty well yesterday, we had 10 players and I think 8 or 9 different armies. No one seemed too powerful because of the comp. I played two games, one against WoC (W) and one against Orruks (L), and both were evenly matched. I got crushed by the Orruks because of their synergy and my lack of experienced, not because of the comp.

Why even play the game?  I am not saying this because I dislike AoS, I just don't understand this.  If you want to play a game of 8th edition WHFb, then play 8th Ed WHFB.  It seems silly to me that the immediate response to AoS is to create elaborate systems to try and make a completely different game into a version of a game that already exists!

Allow me this qualifying comment: I agree that it would be nice to have a game mechanic that made it simple for 2 gamers to play on fairly even terms so that it is fun for both sides.
That's the point, to create a system that allows two people to compete on fairly even terms. I think it's completely acceptable that someone is attempting to fill a void that was intentionally overlooked by GW by designing a system, however elaborate, that's sole purpose is to add balance to a game that would otherwise have none.
