Had a friendly game with the Dwarf player today, using 2000 points due to time restrictions. Luckily, we both had lists already built.
My list:
Skarg
2 Bruisers, one BSB w/ Runemaw and Mountain Eater, the other with Sword of Might and Talisman of Endurance
11 Iron Guts w/ full command and dragonhide banner
2 Gorgers
2 units of 3 leadbelchers
An Iron blaster
His list:
Special Character Master Engineer
2 Organ Guns, one with flaming rune
2 Cannons, 1 flaming
Bolt thrower
3 units of 20 Thundereres
2 Gyrocopters
1 Gyrobomber
I recognized his list as the one he used for a team game we did a while back, complete dwarf gunline. Mine was for another game we did where I went up against actual magic. We are currently testing alternating phases, so I move then he moves, I cast then he casts. Roll a d6+leadership, higher value chooses who goes first that turn
Turn 1 He wins and I go first. I move forward, then he neglects to move other than one unit of thunderers into a building. In magic I generate 7 dice with no channels on a 4 and 3. I 3 dice Toothcracker on the Gut Train and miscast, rolling a 7 for the table and losing my other 4 dice, killing an ogre.
Shooting phase I fail to hit anything with my cannon, while my leadbelchers fail to even hit any of his Thunderers. His shooting on the other hand kills a leadbelcher and 10 iron guts. Passed all leadership tests, but already looking bad for me.
Turn 2 I won initiative, and went first. I tried to charge the now Hero bus into the building. I needed a 6, rolled a 5. Lots of rage, as I lost the last IG and took a wound on both Bruisers. One of the gorgers came on behind his bolt thrower. His movement he remembered the gyros, moving the copters behind the leadbelchers and the bomber bombed my Heros. It ended up killing itself only.
Magic phase, I roll double 3's for dice, then channel. 5 diced Trollguts bubble, getting it off. He failed to dispel, so I 2 diced Toothcracker and got it off.
Shooting phase, I did a few wounds to the Thunderers in the building, and a bunch of wounds to the thunderers right in front of me. Enough to cause a panic that actually made them run off the board. His shooting came around....and actually failed to do much. He put a couple wounds on Skarg and brought the Combat Bruiser up to 3 wounds. He also failed to kill the gorger in his rear.
Turn 3 He won initiative and I went first. I declared my charges...Gorger auto made his charge. Heros charged one of the organ guns. My heroes need a 6 again. They rolled a 5 again...At this point, we kinda knew who won, so I decided my cannon charges the other organ gun (At this point we didn't care it was out of sequence). Needed a 10. I thought that it was doable, but that I'd probably fail. I failed...with a 9. Rage quit at that point with dwarf victory.
Honestly, I went into that game knowing bad things would happen, and that I'd probably lose. The tipping point for me was failing EVERY charge by 1". The only other thing that has ever made me that sad: I can roll a 10 for charging with any unit except units with Ogre Charge. I swear my ogre army hates me some days.
