AOS Starter set?

original thread ↗

Hi guys! Me and my gaming buddy where thinking about buying the sos starter set. Just wanted to hear if any of you guys, had some experience with the set. Is it possible to play the new game, with just the miniatures in the set, or is that not an option? :)

Cheers !

It is possible, perhaps even recommended, to use just the models in the starter box to play the game.
The units included are specifically designed for use in AoS, rather than being grandfathered in like the majority of other models. I believe the box also contains some sort of campaign booklet which features a few different narrative-driven scenarios, which increase in size and scope, using the models provided.
I've read that plenty of people have had fun with the starter set ~ so I'm positive its all you need to play. I got the impression that the two provided warbands were relatively balanced to one another (so it should be a good time). If you are interested in either faction I would definitely consider it ~ should be a relatively safe investment.

If you guys DONT like either faction I'd consider waiting. While it does appear Age of Sigmar will make use of the existing model range, there is still some doubt in the back of my mind about the existing factions. I've heard no commitments from games workshop outside of the treeman/dryad subfaction of the wood elf army. I wouldn't be surprised if there are huge bait and switches in the future (GW needs to sell new models after all).

I read a rumor about an Orc and Goblin release in the future. Hopefully that set of releases will give us an idea of how they will deal with the other factions.

Of course, if you guys played 8th edition then go crazy. Old models will be safe for that!

PPan
You can certainly play the game with the starter set and it would be easy to split the models if you both agree on what faction you want (its what I did with a friend).

The minis are nice. Maybe a little complicated for a novice/new painter or model assembler but there is also instructions for both painting and assembly.

Thanks for the replies guys. It sounds like gw finally made, a balanced starter pack! I look forward to try the new game, and get a new painting challenge.

Cheers:-)
