A toast to Ogre Stronghold

original thread ↗

I have to say that I am legitimately sad.  I had thought that AoS was a side project, but did not comprehend that it was the end of Warhammer Fantasy Battle.  I don't know how people here are receiving AoS, but I'm done.  I have had so much fun playing Warhammer for over 10 years, and now it's done.  AoS isn't balanced and doesn't do anything more than score a cheap laugh.  There will be no 9th, so that means that my ogres are retiring from service.  They did me proud.

I will linger around the forums for a bit, but once it becomes an AoS based forum then I will bid a final farewell to the Ogre Stronghold.  Thanks to everybody who helped me build tactics over the years and commented on my batreps.  I appreciate the community and I'm sad to distance myself from it, but with Fantasy being discontinued, I don't really see how the Stronghold could maintain anything new about WHFB.

I think GW made a big mistake, but they have stopped caring about fan input (which could have saved their sorry butts) and only cared about raking in money (which drives off your clientele).  I have two 40k armies, but after what happened with End Times and AoS, I won't spend another dollar with GW excluding Total War: Warhammer, because I am a huge Total War fan.  I have a small ember of hope that years down the road GW will release 9th, but that flicker won't be enough to keep me in the hobby.  It will only be enough to draw me back, should things change.

Thanks again to everyone.  Pet gnoblar to the Stronghold for being awesome.

Sorry to see you go buddy. Trust me, I know exactly where you're coming from - I've sworn off anything and everything to do with GW too. After 17 years in the hobby, the amount of respect and loyalty they've shown to people like me is appalling.

That said, I've not let it put me off miniature wargaming, just their overpriced, repetitive and unoriginal drivel. You don't have to stay around here for Fantasy - stay for the other game systems. Stay for the good times and memories you've made. Stay for the community who stands together, regardless of the bullshit GW pull.

Whatever you decide to do, I wish you the very best mate, and just know you're always welcome round these parts :)

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
For those of you that would like to continue playing fantasy battles, check out eefl.freeforums.net.  We want the sight to be for people that wasn't too continue on,  develop new lists,  make new units,  campaign ideas and scenarios.
I still play bloodbowl.... albeit the stunty 7s version but its vastly fun.
It's sad that you are leaving gnoblar_god but I hope that someday things change and you can come back to us. You don't have to quit the hooby, just don't play GW's games anymore. There is Warmachine/Hordes, Dreadball and a whole host of over miniature games out there. Perhaps one of those will fun for you until GW gets their act together.

You can take bigmacdaddy up on his offer and try his website. It might prove to be a great place for WFB players to reside.

Why not keep playing 8th?
Why not keep playing 8th?
Not always possible sadly. As time goes on, and a game isn't officially recognised, a player base can die. Once the interest wanes, it becomes harder and harder to find a game.

A great example is Necromunda - phenomenal game, and enjoy it immensely, but finding people to play a campaign is nigh on painful.

Oh absolutely (and I share your pain re Necromunda) but a game takes a long time to die like that. I strongly dislike Age of Sigmar but in my respectful opinion what is killing 8th at this point is people who now just stop playing.

One can look at this situation as Games Workshop killing 8th off or one can look at this situation as Games Workshop giving us the players ownership of 8th in a way we never have before.
Well I am still playing 8th and have Ogres, Gnoblars (Ok, yes the gnoblar army isn't legal but hey! none of the armies are legal now so who cares!) Chaos Dwarfs and Empire - I live in the midlands of UK - if anyone ever wants a game of 8th - lets sort something out!
I have a dream that one day Gnoblars will be judged on the content of their trinket bags and not by the size of their nose or ears. I have a dream!

I shall call him Randy and he shall be my pet.

Myself and G_H have been talking about getting a gaming day in up at WHW, for what feels like forever. When we finally sort something out, you'll have to come along! :)
