Poll: Going forward, which wargames will you play?
In this era of plentiful miniature wargames, it would be interesting to see what we're all planning to play.
For me, hopefully a bit of Fantasy 8th, Age of Sigmar and I plan to give Kings of War a go too.
How about you?
Poppaulli14 Jul 2015
I'll still play 8th if I have somebody to play in the club.
Lunk want to smash and eat stuff
Tuzigor14 Jul 2015
Crazy enough all the long beards at the LGS have picked up AoS with a lot of gusto. I haven't had a chance to play a game yet, I've been sidelined for a while with an infant, but from reading the forum they seem to be having a great time with it and trying to write their own comp. I put up 8th, AoS and KoW.
Gutlord Inquisitor14 Jul 2015
I'm uninterested in AoS but I'm not swearing it off entirely. I'll keep an eye on future releases see if they can make it interesting.
Right now I'm playing mostly X-wing, but I'm reading the 2nd ed KoW and I'm keen to try that out.
Minigiant14 Jul 2015
So i dabble in a lot of games
40k - Tau & Imperial Knights 8th WFB - Ogre Kingdoms Blood Bowl - Dwarf Batman - Watchmen Bolt Action - Finnish Flames of War - Soviet Dropzone Commander - Shaltari X wing - Empire
I have The Halo: Fleet Battles preordered and backed Wild West Exodus kickstarter

Nazzaarth Icebreaker14 Jul 2015
The games I'm interested in or want to get started playing are the following.
40K - Imperial Guard | Militarum Tempestus | Orkz & maybe more someday. WFB - Ogre Kingdoms | However, I'm also looking towards making Chaos Dwarf/Dwarf plus O&G forces in the future. Warmahordes - Retribution of Scyrah Nyrro themed army Dreadball - Brokkr | Judwan & hopefully more. Deadzone - On the fence aout this one but if I did commit I would go for Forgefathers.
This list might change in the future with additions & subtractions but it gives you a pretty good idea of what I'm interested in.

WarmaHordes. You never have to worry about your entire faction will become obsolete.
You shall fear the warppuppies for the warppuppies have teeth and are hungry, and forsooth they have decided that thy are crunchy and taste good with ketchup
Nazzaarth Icebreaker15 Jul 2015
I completely agree with you on that note Torg. Waramhordes is pretty much a safe wargame to get into and the best part is you only need one army to play both games. So no need to have 2 separate armies for your sci-fi and fantasy needs. Well, steampunk in this case but you get the point.

I'm one of those "rage quit fanboy" types with the recent Fantasy debacle, so I'm not really having much to do with it at the moment.
That said, I'm planning on reading the Kings of War rule set, and am dabbling with a little known rule set called "Hobgoblin".
I'm also heavily into Infinity, Batman the Miniature Game, Necromunda, 40k and Dredd(!), all of which are amazing

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.

I'm going to stick with 8th edition and Malifaux. I have no real interest in AoS. I've seen a couple of battle reports for it, and thus far have not been impressed.
It just seems.....simple. Too simple. There is no longer any strategy. "Hey, I move my thing here. I roll some dice, your stuff dies." "Oh yeah? Well I roll some dice, and now your stuff dies."
I might try KoW.
One of the many nice things about playing other games is that you no longer have to care about what idiocy is occurring at GW. Starting Malifaux was a nice little buffer between me and GW stupidity.

Yeah!! about 40Euros will buy you a complete army!! (hey, I'm living in Norway so I have to use the European site!) Rules from: http://www.drwhominiatures.co.uk/
they have good links for miniatures and rules expansions etc there too! Their ruleset is completely free along with expansions etc, quite lively FB page.
Some folk don't like Black Tree Design, however all I can say is that I've never had delays or problems with them in anyway and I've been dealing with them since about 1997.
I also have the old Harlequin miniatures Doctor Who Invasion Earth rule set too, so if anyone PM's me with an email address I'll send them a copy, not a great scan, but readable and uselable.

This perfectly sums up how I feel about moving away from GW and their products. I'll keep an ambivalent eye on new stuff coming out, but I just have lost so much love for them recently.
I forgot about Malifaux. I've just got into it myself - dabbling with Dreamer and Kin crews atm.

Stunty league uses pure stunty teams like hobbits, skinks, goblins, nurglings etc... blood bowl 7's is a "rugby" variation with teams around 12 miniatures. There are two lines of scrimmage and the board is about 2 inches smaller (all around)
I played my gnoblars in a regular season never won a game but it was the most fun I or my opponents ever had. By game 4 I figured out how to get consecutive touchdowns. With gnoblars you need to understand you will have many die and you will lose. Once you "understand" that is when you start to not lose really badly. In my last game against chaos beastmen I killed one beast and injured 3 more. This allowed me to get my first and last point for the season.
It was the last as the group I was in had a tourney they went to, then I moved.

That sounds interesting knify. It seems unfair that gnoblars just lose. Every team should be able to win some how. However, I may have misinterpreted your post so please clarify if that is the case.

The stunty teams are great against each other, its not that the just lose... its that I just lose lol.

All we did was replace the rosters to have stunty work in blood bowls 7s
From those sites you should be able to download pretty much everything to play free.
There are updated team rosters for the different games (either stunty, regular or 7s) amongst the different rule sets.
Happy converting! I found with gnoblers you want to have bullies. If you could have more they would be very op. I use my guys with shields to represent them.

Lol I almost feel that in a regular season (not stunty) the gnoblar team should be able to play with a team size of 20-30. To account for deaths. I also feel they they should have more bombs or traps.
Nazzaarth Icebreaker01 Aug 2015
That certainly would help them alot. They are goblins so some of their options should match the normal goblin blood bowl team's weaponry and setup.

I chose other.
The big reason for that is because lately I have had zero time for myself since my daughter's birth. And although I'm super excited and happy for having her in my life, it has really since then shut me down from any playtime.
ALSO, I just got transferred to a different store, and they have me on a set schedule... NICE!
Except that the set days off that I have are the two days that all the GW stores are closed... NOT NICE... lol
So, I put other, because other than clinging to what little Warhammer time I have left, I cannot afford to start any other gaming system (and I have a dutiful and loving wife who keeps me in check, otherwise we'd be broke with more plastic toys around the house lol...), but I don't want to say "none" yet because I'll still try to cling to my Warhammer, and the hopes of a follow-up edition that actually uses the traditional rules that I love so very very much
(I actually haven't even posted in the forums for so long because my damn computer is starting to die the death of a thousand "papercuts" ie viruses...)
38 Gnobs! Almost on my 4th Pack of Trappers! Exciting Gibblet, Nibblet, Crunchybit, Snorti, Lullzee, Wakezee, Wardler, and Primo! (For sharing the Forum Primer to help out a new member! )

There are so many systems out there.
For me - Warhammer - that's the game I fell in love with but also playing a lot of Batman miniatures and played Guild Ball for the first time the other day and really liked that.
I also really liked Deadzone but like Bloodbowl, great game but nobody to play against.
I have a dream that one day Gnoblars will be judged on the content of their trinket bags and not by the size of their nose or ears. I have a dream!
I shall call him Randy and he shall be my pet.

I just picked up Wrath of Kings. Played two games with my son, and I must say that the game impresses me. Great minis, great interaction both within a faction and between enemy models. It feels epic even with a small amount of minis on the table.

@Bigmacdaddy: I will try to get a test game in when I have the chance. College is starting soon but it is my last semester before I graduate so thats good.

I would say that the similarity with Warhammer is minimal. You have several factions vying for control of a empire. The overall feel is medium fantasy to me. There is magic, but it is much more augmentative vs. direct damaging. When you roll to attack you look at the target's stat card to see what the result is. Most special abilities alter the target card. I would say its closest comparators are Warmahordes and Malifaux, but it is its own game.
Nazzaarth Icebreaker12 Aug 2015
Sounds like fun macdaddy. What faction have you chosen to play as? I'm looking at the game right now and wondering which house is the right one for me. Is there any info you can give to me that will help me make a decision?

I'm very much new to it. I know that Gortisi is fast and reasonably ferocious. Hadross has an ability called resonate that can buffs a lot of their models. I like Teknes, because I love the idea of basically genetic manipulation. (I'm a Biology teacher). Nasier has a cool as the and hit hard, and Shael Han I know little about because I am just getting into it.
Nazzaarth Icebreaker13 Aug 2015
It would be terrifying if those pigmen actually existed. Pigs will eat anything as long as they can put their mouths around it. They can eat every part of the human body except for the skull because it is too big for their maw. I wouldn't be surprised if the people of Teknes have some unsolved cases of missing people, who in reality got eaten by one union workers. They have pig dna in them, so if they are starving and the only possible food source around is another human being guess who is going to be dinner? No wonder they need union bosses to keep them in line.
And that's just one faction. I'm sure each faction has some downside to their lifestyle/way of thinking but the using of genetic manipulation of pig dna seems like a bad idea. Just like the werewolves and vampires of Goritsi are not going to noom-noom any of humans they live with.
Don't get me wrong, I'm keen on the game but like both Warhammer universes this reality is a dangerous world to live in.
