Ogre & Dwarven allies

Hello everyone,

After about a year and a half of not playing fantasy (because my group died and left me with 40k players) I am jumping back in.  I have played ogres since the codex was released, and I love them, but I want to do something different than what just the OK codex has to offer.  I was offered some dwarves at a good price and I wanted to use them to ally with my ogres and do a lot of allied games so that I can have some unique things happen.

My question is whether dwarves and ogres make good allies, or should I pick up a different team as my ogre support squad?

I know that dwarves offer a lot of firepower and magic resilience, and their play style is drastically different (which is one reason I like the idea).  But does anybody have experience with allying?  Which factions work best with ogres?

The only factions I will not consider are High Elves, Skaven, or Undead.

Well, if you go with the new Age of Sigmar rules, the Dwarfs don't really fall into the same faction as Ogres

For the new group I'm in, AoS doesn't exist.  They are all playing by 8th.

I think theye are a good combination, dwarfs have good shooting but lack in movement, while the ogres are a very mobile army... u can shoot up your opponent a turn or two and as he races to meat you in battle you can charge his weakenned lines first and role over him... maybe can even be a bit op in mu opinion...

fluff wise you can easily make this aliance work, since ogres are mercenaries (basicaly a neutral facion), and dwarfs have a lot of gold....

Mechanically dwarfs compliment ogres pretty well. Ogres hit hard but they tend to take a lot of hits in return. Dwarfs can take a lot of hits and have powerful ranged options.

Fluff-wise I always thought of dwarfs and ogres as passive-aggressive enemies. But like servianwolf said, dwarves got the gold.

Is it hard to convert dwarfs into chaos dwarfs or use them as stand ins? I dont know much about chaos dwarfs - they better suited to ally with ogres?

yes they are....atleast fluff wise...

chaos dwarfes openly trade with ogres, they ussualy get slaves ogres captured during their campaigns, in exhcange for advanced weapons or gold.... The leader of the ironskin tribe rides upon a metal demonic mount creaed by the chaos dwarfes...

gamewise chaos dwarfes also have a lot of firepower, which complements the ogres nicely...dont know about their magic and monsters though...

I actually wanted to try this myself. Unfornatly, because I haven't tried this ally combo before I'm not the one to ask about how they perform together. However, from both a fluffy stand point and on paper a Chaos Dwarf/Dwarf force would work well with an Ogre tribe.

If you can post some battle reports or summaries of your experiences with your allied army I would love to read it. That is my opinion anyway.
