Monthly Painting Challenge - July 2015

Okay! Here we are with the...


Just joining in? The idea is, you make a promise to paint and/or build/convert a given number of models at the beginning of the month, and report back with your progress, if and when you manage to complete it. From here on out we will refer to this as your "Pledge"!

The Rules:

• All Pledges will be frozen after the 10th day of the month. There is no changing of *any* pledge after day 10. Pledges are still accepted after the 10th of the month, but they can not be changed once they are made.
• If you finish your pledge, and you would like to really impress the rest of the Stronghold, you can then go on to add a Bonus pledge. Any additions to your pledge made before the 10th go onto your initial pledge and will not count as a Bonus pledge.
• We need to know The number of Models when you post your pledge. 3, 8, 10, or even 100. Saying "A unit" is not acceptable.
• Extra incentive: I will be awarding to those who complete their pledge. I'll also be awarding an extra to the one pledgee who posts the best photos of their pledge throughout the month!

*Please* post the progression of your work (pictures if at all possible). One of the best things about this thread is watching everyone's work come together. It's perfectly fine if you don't post any photos, however. Feel free to make separate posts, and then link into this thread so that others can comment directly in your own thread in the Butchers Cauldron or your Gnoblog.

FAQ
Q: So I can Only do Ogre Kingdoms or GW Minis, for my pledge?
A: No. There isn't anything stopping you from building and/or painting anything you like, however this is the Ogre Stronghold, and we are naturally more excited to see Ogre models. If you're working on one of your other Armies or projects, and/or any other Models, please feel free to make a Pledge.

Q: I need to change my Pledge!
A: well.. You have until the 10th day of the month.

Q: What if I don't have a camera?
A: We operate on the honor system. If you say you did it, we believe you. There may be small prizes awarded for photographic evidence, but you really only get the satisfaction of lying on the internet if you choose to do so.

Q: Will you do one of these every month?
A: That's the goal... We'll do one of these close to the beginning of every month...

Q: What if I finish my pledge but decide to do more?
A: Paint away! If you mean, can you get a head start on next month, I guess so. But it's not as big of an accomplishment  to make a pledge with 75% of the project painted at the start of the month...  That's not to say that sometimes the last 25% of the project your working on is not more than worth being a pledge of its own..

Q. I have not completed my Pledge for the past few months, should I still enter?
A. You bet! The idea behind a painting challenge is to develop some discipline as to what you're going to build or paint. Part of the challenge is to learn what you can complete within a given month, and what you can't. If you find you're not able to complete your pledge for the month, then reduce the size of it.

I pledge to assemble and paint 1 Captain Hiroko miniature from Prodos games. This will count as a vindicare assassin ally for my Imperial Guard army.

I pledge to paint and assemble 4 Ironguts, and to finish sculpting the two special ogres I'm working on.

I'm pledging the following;

5 Squig hoppers and 2 squigs. Unfortunately still waiting on an international package arriving so can't pledge what's in that yet. Will update later. Brushes are a go.

I pledge to assemble and prime all the miniatures in the Ogre Kingdoms battalion box

I pledge to finish painting my new Mordheim warband: Hob-Goblins!

I will finish my thundertusk

Got the two squigs done and all the other squig areas of the hoppers. Just the riders to put the finishing touches to and we're done!

Still waiting on mail, unfortunately, so won't be able to play/pledge any new goodies this month. That mean's I'll top July off with some drinking & BBQs with friends and some experimental basing & painting techniques for my next project; VC.

Wow Wacko, these look really nice. Keep up the good work on those conversions. In the end it will be worth the effort put into them.

I have completed my pledge and finished Captain Hiroko. It was a busy month for me getting prepared for a math test that I will take next week so I haven't been able to contribute to my army. Hopefully, in the coming months I'll be able to pledge more and have more time to enjoy this wonderful hobby of ours.

Man, I never made the pledge for this guy but I thought I'd share him anyway. Power painted this week and brought my first ironblaster to life. He's 90% done, and I was getting pretty lazy towards the end (as my anxiety to put him together took over).

First ogre I've painted in quite awhile.

PS - Ironblasters are difficult man! You've got to get nearly all the parts painted before you can put it together. I kept snapping little fiddly bits (and cursing). Very fun model though. I love him.

I think a congratulations is in order Panther. To finish a model that has ben giving you trouble is an accomplishment in itself. Looking forward to seeing more of your work and I hope its not as difficult for you as this guy was.

Nice work with the Ironblaster Panther, I had to do the same as you and paint all the pieces before assembling. Otherwise it would have been a right pain!

Unfortunately Wacko, my camera's lens has become so hazy that every pic I take comes out burly. If you go back to June's painting challenge I mention it in my post. It looks like I'll have to buy a new one before posting any pics or at least a good used one. So until further notice there will be no pics coming but as soon as I get my hands on a good camera then I'll be more then happy to share what I have done with you guys and gals.

Ha! Come on Nazzaarth, doesn't everyone have a smart phone these days?

Unfortunately, I don't Panther.  I was thinking about getting an i Pad and using the camera feature along with everything else that came with it. I know that its not good quality compared to cameras but for the price I'd rather have and use an iPad considering the many things it can do.

Good work so far guys, really great effort too!

I've got a minor details left on the remaining five minis in my pledge, it's going to be a close one. It has been insanely humid these days and hard to sit down and focus on such things...

The hoppers are still blu-tac'd to their painting platform but finished nonetheless. It was a close shave getting these guys done this month as it's insanely humid these days and I've been pretty busy.

I'll get a better shot tomorrow if time allows.
