Age of Sigmar and the Future of Our Community

original thread ↗

Fellow Tyrants, the End Times have passed and the Age of Sigmar is almost upon us - looking across the interwebs this is clearly a time of Chaos and confusion for many of us!

Rest assured however, this community will continue to exist no matter what path Warhammer takes. If Age of Sigmar leaves the online Warhammer community feeling fractured, with groups of people instead choosing to play 2nd edition Kings of War, sticking with 8th edition Fantasy and/or developing a home-brew 9th edition, this website will endeavour to include all of those discussions going forward as well as the new Age of Sigmar game.

My work here took a bit of a back seat in recent times while I waited to find out what shape the new Warhammer setting would take and what the future of the Ogre Kingdoms faction would be, if indeed Ogres had any future in the new setting at all...

Well, I'm able to report that we now have solid information available about our beloved fatties - Ogres will be renamed 'Ogors' in the new setting, and will belong to a new 'Destruction' faction. They will retain their renowned insatiable hunger in the new background, marauding and devouring across the new Realms. The Destruction faction also primarily contains 'Grots' (a potential replacement name for both Gnoblars and Goblins) as well as Orruks (otherwise known as Orcs!).

This website will therefore evolve in time to bring our new Orruk/Orc friends into the fold alongside our smaller greenskin allies, becoming a home to the faction of Destruction in Warhammer. We will also soon support discussion of the Ogres in Kings of War, with a new forum section arriving with 2nd edition this year.

This community was started in 2004 through my passion for monster miniatures in Warhammer, it grew and grew with the amazing help of the moderators and the many fantastic members that have graced the forum over the years, and with your continued support this community will be a home for fans of monstrous miniatures and wargaming for many years to come! :D :>D
Well put :)

I am strangely optimistic for this game.
And if it means I can fire leadbelchers at a unit in combat with goblins, then bring it on
This is all excellent news and am excited to see how it pans out on the forums :)
great news! if the new game turns out to be cr*p, the best way to forge something new that will be community made is buy cooperating with other forums who have a lot of enthusiasts that are full of ideas.
Hear Hear!  Glad to know the Stronghold will never die!  And is still imho the best Warhammer forum there is!

Kind regards Zolas.

Great to hear the Website continuing as this was one of my first Fantasy Websites I joined when starting the game.

I would hope that some of the Forum threads might include the following

8th Ed/9th Ed continued
Sigmar
Kings of War version 2
etc...

Some players may try a lot of versions until they find what they prefer, while others may stick to 8th Ed slightly modified.

Either way I will continue to contribute to this website.

Yup, I'm going to put a bit of thought into it and work on a prototype forum template so that we can include all of those options without the number of individual boards getting too crazy, I want to get it right before bringing it to the live forum though so you won't notice any changes here just yet. I have a few ideas I'd like to try :D

Thanks for the kind words guys!
Couldn't agree more! Bring on the monsters!!

I think this is a overall great idea Hragged. Now that my second favorite army for both Warhammers is getting a home here I won't be needing to stay at Da Waaagh!!! anymore. I always wanted to build an all goblin army that could be used in all the factions I plan or planned on owning (Orkz/O&G, Ogres, count as AD Mech allies for IG/AM). Hopefully, I can create a gnoblog dedicated to their creation in the future. I'm looking forward to continuing being a part of this site and aiming to become a Tyrant or Stronghold Guard someday.

Onward to the future and wherever the Age of Sigmar takes us let it be a golden experience.

So glad to hear this. After seeing the news that you do not need round bases i will be giving AoS a go but maintaining my army as an 8th edition force. However with the introduction of grots, i am excited to see if i can make any cool Japanese fire work weapons and some chariots being pulled by mighty foo dogs. AoS has just opened up a new realm of modelling opportunities
My Giant Blog

Haha, I love the sound of that, Minigiant!

The forum changes sound excellent too. I don't know a lot about Kings of War, but if people start discussing it on the forums I'm more likely to give it a proper look. It'll be interesting to see what kind of mixed armies AoS will inspire people to build too.
The kings of war website are free online. It'll take you half an hour to learn the entire game if you already understand fantasy.

Having read age of sigmar (and done a cheeky one squad vs one squad game today) I think it's well worth a go. Games workshop have refound their sense of humour. It just might be the genius which revitalises the game.

For those that might be interested by Kings of War, the 2nd edition PDF should be available for free on July 10th, you can subscribe to mantic newsletter to get it as soon as it is available (and get a chance of winning a printed book).

Meanwhile, if you are interested but does not want to read the soon to be obsolete 1st edition rules, you can find the last beta version of the 2nd edition there : https://onedrive.live.com/view.aspx?resid=21AFEBFC9F9B9322!13419&ithint=file%2cpdf&app=WordPdf&authkey=!AA65yYAaNDyt4KE

And more important, the beta army lists, updated special rules and the magic artefacts can be found there : https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nhZLDFOHUXC2MCA6NwYQWr0HF2mSyvEWIlNH4oCtBeQ/htmlview#

There might be some small changes, for exemple it is know that one magic artefact has gone for giving one special rule (ensnare) to another (phalanx), but on the whole this should be close the the final version and you can already play with it.

Huzzah!
I've made a start on some of the planned forum changes today. This is going to be quite a big overhaul overall, I am by no means finished so please keep that in mind over the next few days as the forum will continue to evolve :)

Cheers!
Pretty satisfied with this new basic forum board structure now, I've been tweaking the names most of the day :P Think I've got it to a stage where it makes sense for the three main wargames, had to do a bit of research into the KoW background while I was at it as I'm new to the setting.

Would there be a desire to see a Warmahordes board added under the Kings of War board?

Still got work to do on the look of the forum, I've got some useful and fun things planned, things suited to our new multi-wargame approach!
Yes, I think you should add a Warmahordes board to this site. It is the biggest miniature wargame outside of the Warhammers. That alone will encourage people to become a part of this forum and show of some neat gnoblogs featuring their armies.

So, all in all, go with this multi-wargame approach that your planning. I think it will work out well in the end.

I'm not sure what my own future with my ogres will be, but I'm glad the Stronghold will still be here whatever path I take. :)
This is Wiki, the pet gnoblar. Say hello, Wiki.
By the way guys, I'm transferring the domain over to my main domain host, when the transfer kicks in there may be a little downtime while I sync it up again but it shouldn't be for long.
Ok, thanks for mentioning that to us Hragged. It would have been discouraging to try logging in but then getting a message about the forums being down. Can't wait for the future changes to take place here.

I've got word that the domain transfer won't happen until the 17th of this month, after which I'll be able to get back to work on the changes :)
