Mid-Atlantic Tournament Results

original thread ↗

Well I went to a Master Qualifying tournament over the weekend and had a fantastic time. It was 2400 ETC rules and I came out in 9th out of 49. So I am most pleased with myself. My list (I'll post it) was rock solid thanks to both Gutlord Inquisitor and Lexy both providing great advice. Here is what I took:

SM: L4 Heavens, AhW, Dispel Scroll, Talisman of Endurance, Ironcurse Icon
Bruiser: BSB, HA, Shield, Dragonhelm, Luckstone, Crown of Command
Butcher: L1 Maw, AhW, Hellheart (hero of my games)

Ironguts: x8 Full Command, Look out Gnoblar, Dragonhide Banner
Bulls: x3 IF Bellower
Bulls: x3 IF Bellower

Maneaters: x6 Full Command, Look out Gnoblar, x3 Brace of Pistols, Standard of Discipline, Poison and Stubborn
Mournfang: x4 Full Command, HA, IF, Gleaming Pennant
Sabertusk
Sabertusk
Leadbelchers: x3

Ironblaster

Game 1: Vs Daemons Tzench
Very nice game. I managed to really keep his army at bay due to the Lore of Heavens. Kept pounding him with Urons Thunderbolt and Chain Lightning (he had several flyers). Hellheart kicked in and caused his Lord of Change to roll a Dimensional Cascade and disappear into the warp. Funny thing though my next magic phase I roll a miscast and did the same thing :D I won pretty big despite I lost my SM.

Game 2: Vs Chaos Dwarfs
Nice guy but talked a big game. I'm quite familiar with CD since I'm building an army myself. I knew to aviod his main rank and file unit because that would have been very hard to defeat (even with a charge). I did clean house though by getting rid of his Iron Daemons (again Urons Thunderbolt was a huge help here). The Comet came down and cleared out all his artillery. Took some losses but still won but a tighter game. Hellheart didn't do too much but took out some dwarfs.

Game 3: Vs Vampire Counts
This guy was good guy but I felt really bad as to what happened. This is one of the Masters Tournament players and I took him out in 30 min. I managed to kill his Terrorgheist with Urons Thunderbolt in one shot (granted it took the lore attribute to do the last wound but that counts right?). Charged his Crypt Horrors with my Mournfant (probably not the best idea) and held. He had his Dire Wolves in a conga line and one charged my Maneaters and then had a second unit with 2 remaining wolves stand by to block the Maneaters to prevent them from pursuing (he used champions). Moved his skeli bus into the flank of my Mournfang (ah oh!). Well you can probably gander what happened next. Hellheart kicked in (lucky 5) and 2 Dimensional Cascades (one passed but not his general  :o) So basically he was removing lots of models for loosing his general (you still take crumbling tests till the start of the next turn when the next caster takes over). Once that occurred he conceded. Major victory. I did try and plead with him to try and keep going but his heart wasn't there.

Game 4: Vampire Counts
This game was ugly from the start. I was on high tables (new territory for me never have I won 3 games in a row at a tournament). Three big units I was up against- Terrorgheist, Vamp on Dragon and a Coven Throne. I threw the kitchen sink at this game and lost miserably. Lost my Ironblaster turn one due to a misfire and rolled a 1. Three times I miscasted and did nothing with wounds. Blew up my own units. I did more harm to myself than my opponent (he was a cool dude too). So major loss there.

Game 5: Lizardmen
This game was not so bad for me. He had lots of flying units (you know what's coming). I just held back to prevent the flying units from coming at me from behind. Urons Thunderbolt and Chain Lightning was everywhere tearing up his flying  units. Leadbelchers causing enough wounds to cause panic checks (he failed several) running his units off the table. I couldn't get to his Slann which was fine because he too conceded.

So all in all I brought my A game and did extremely well. I was really impressed with myself. I'm usually the guy that no one knows and is a the bottom tables. So this was new territory for me and felt great. Again my list was in great thanks to Gutlord Inquisitor and Lexy.
Congratulations
Good show. You played some good players and held your own.

Only Ld8 on the gutstar? Guess it worked out for you but that was a bit risky!
Most of the time they were in range of the Maneaters so I did get the L9 stubborn.
Put your SM in the maneaters?  That's new.
Ah yeah.

So how useful was having two stubborn blocks? Would you have picked the same 2 abilities on the maneaters if you were to do it again?
Without question I would. Poison and Stubborn were huge.
