2,000 points Tournament List

original thread ↗

Hi guys

I haven't played ogres for a while but I'm thinking of bringing them to a tournament in the next couple of months and I'd really appreciate any advice you guys can give. This is my list so far:

+ Lords +

Slaughtermaster [Additional Hand Weapon, Lore of the Great Maw, Wizard Level 4]
····Magic Items [AB - Rock Eye, BRB - Forbidden Rod, BRB - Talisman of Preservation]

+ Heroes +

Bruiser [Battle Standard Bearer, Heavy Armour]
····Magic Items and Big Names [BRB - Enchanted Shield, BRB - Sword of Anti-Heroes, BRB - Talisman of Protection]

Firebelly [Additional Hand Weapon, Lore of Fire, Wizard Level 1]
····Magic Items [BRB - Dispel Scroll, BRB - Ruby Ring of Ruin]

+ Core +

Ironguts [Bellower, Champion, 10x Ironguts]
····Standard Bearer [BRB - Standard of Discipline, Lookout-Gnoblar]

Ogres [Bellower, Champion, 7x Ogres, Standard Bearer]

+ Special +

Mournfang Cavalry
····4x Ogre [4x Heavy Armour, 4x Ironfists]
····Standard Bearer [AB - Dragonhide Banner]

Sabretusk

Sabretusk

+ Rare +

Ironblaster

This is 2,000 points spot on.

Thanks guys

I like it, solid list all around.  Is there a reason you went enchanted shield on the BsB and not Dragon helm?(same effect plus the fire Ward actually has proven quite handy)
Tbh it was just an issue of remaining points, buddy :)

By my calculations, having dragon helm, talisman of protection & sword of antiheroes exceeds the 50 points allowed for heroes, when choosing magic items.

The build you suggested, could be used by a Tyrant or Slaughtermaster, however.

Dragon helm, sword of antiheroes, Talisman of Preservation (instead of protection) is a better build, making use of 85 points from their magic points allowance, leaving 15 spare.
Yeah, I didn't have the points handy.
Hi again, I've had a re-look and jiggled some bits around. How do you think this list would hold up?

Slaughtermaster
- Additional Hand Weapon
- Wizard Level 4 (Lore of the Great Maw)
- Crown of Command, Dispel Scroll, Talisman of Endurance

Bruiser
- Battle Standard Bearer
- Great Weapon, Heavy Armour
- Ironcurse Icon, Talisman of Preservation

Bruiser
- Ironfist
- Armour of Fortune, Sword of Striking

9x Ironguts
- Full Command (Standard of Discipline)
- Lookout-Gnoblar

4x Ogres
- Standard Bearer
- Additional Hand Weapons

4x Mournfangs
- Heavy Armour, Ironfists
- Standard Bearer (Dragonhide Banner)

2x Mournfangs
- Great Weapon, Heavy Armour

2,000 points on the dot

Cheers!

Question: why did you drop the firebelly for a second bruiser?  What does having 2 give you that one does not do well enough?  I'm not saying that 2 big fighty bruisers isn't handy, but the firebelly gives you more versatility, both combat (breath weapon) and magic (guaranteed offensive magic to deal with a variety of stuff that no other part of your army does at the moment).  I guess essentially the question is, what's your vision with this setup? (I am a fan of trying things out that are nonstandard, I am more asking because I am curious, not because I am saying you should do one or the other)

On that note, 3 characters at 2000 Pts is already a lot, and with 2 units of MFC, you don't have a lot of bodies/wounds to lose and your only giving your opponent a few targets to worry about, so it will be easier to mass against you.
+1 to bringing the FB back, besides that looks like a great list!
Solid points guys, I'll try and bring the firebelly back - I was thinking two bruisers would really lay the smack down :)

And it definitely would against rank and file, but maybe not against some of the more scary stuff out there(even a tyrant kitted out would struggle).  It's all in how you plan to use them.  On second thought, I would encourage you to try out both lists and see which leaves you wishing for something more.  Double bruiser is not something that's done much, maybe you are on to something.
The GW on the 2 Mournfangs isn't optimal as they lose parry and +1 on the Armour save.

Firebelly is a better option but try the 2nd bruiser as mentioned.

Reasons for Firebelly are Fireball and breathe weapon to get past regen and he can also carry the Hellheart if needs be.
