Hi everybody! I proceded over many tests since the begining of the year in order to prepare myself for an ETC Turnament which I played this week-end. I would like to share my list and my views on ETC comp for the OK because I think that can help some people who are looking to play in ETC.
First of all here is the list I choose for the turnament:
List
Slaughtermaster: L4 Heaven, Fencers' Blades, Glittering Scales, OTS, earthing rod
In my opinion the most solid build for a combat SM. Very resilient and can challenge solo character trying to block the ironguts for a long time. Lore of heavens is the best choice in my opinion because it brings good high strengh damage as long as good buff/debuff.
Bruiser: BSB, GW, ironcurse icon, obsidian lodestone
I don't want my IG unit to die because of magic missile and I would like to protect all my characters against the sniping spells. So MR3 looks a good choice.
Butcher: GW, Dispell scroll, L2 Great Maw
I choose to put him L2 in order to have a bit more buffing spells for the combat phases. With often 2 buff/debuff of heavens + 2 lore of great maw I should get enough spells to support my list which is very combat oriented
9 Ironguts: FC, stand. of disc
Leadership 9 is needed. Ironguts are the best core choice.
3 Ogres: add HW
A small usefull unit with 12 attacks + impact hits & stomps for 93 pts
3x10 Gnoblars
3 Free Drops at the Deployment stage. I'll be sure to out-deploy my oponent at most battle and be able to choose where to put my main threats. The gnoblars can also work as redirectors or hard cover for shooting in some games.
4 Mournfangs: M, S, Dragonhide banner
I hesitated a lot between them and 2x4 Leadies but I came to the conclusion that they will be a great second combat unit. With the dragonhide banner they should be able to deal with a lot of threats
2x2 Mournfangs: M
A chariot with 14 attacks, 6 W, 2+/pary for 150 points. I get it! Very mobile and can achieve a lot for a low points costs.
3x1 Sabretusk
Must have
2x1 Ironblaster
I voluntary choose to put 4 out of my 5 pool choices for these 2. They are strong in a lot of match-up especially since the 50% characters erata. For me it's the only way to be competitive in some match up in ETC. With 1 canon you can have some missfires not with 2.
Tournament Recap
Game 1: Chaos Warrior
My oponent is playing 1 lord on dragon with a lot of stuff (d3 wounds sword, 1+/5++), a L4 lord of nurgle (with ogre blade 1+, 4++), a BSB, 7 Knights of nurgle, 25 chaos warrior of nurgle, a chariot of nurgle, a vortex beast, 2x5 chaos dogs
I know that I must take the dragon on shooting because he can deal with most of my units in combat. He starts and goes forward agressively in order to charge on turn 2. On my first turn my 1 canon missfires while the 2nd put 4 wounds on the dragon and 2 on the lord. I combo charge the knights with 3 ogres and 2 mournfangs but loose. At the turn 3 I will be able to counter charge the dragon on the flanc with the IG unit and kill him and on turn 4 to charge the knights with the IG and make them flee. My 4 mournfangs will charge and kill the warrior and the other 2 mournfangs charge and kill the chariot
It ends up being a 20-0 because only a dog is staying on the table after turn 4. A good starting game!
Game 2: Skaven
I am facing the captain of the Swiss ETC Team so not an easy game. He plays two L4 caster and one of them is on the screaming bell, 1 L1 caster with brass orb, 1 L0 caster with the nasty big template missile, a BSB stand of disc, 40 stromvermins, 2x50 slaves, 35 clan rats, 6 giant rats, 2 canons, 3 stormfiends, 2x5 gutter runner, 21 slaves
I am happy to be able to start the game in order to shoot with my canons before he does. I kill 1 canon and misfire the other one on first turn. I move straight forward on the middle of the table with most of my units. My gutstar is on the right in front of the stormvermins and my 4 mournfangs on their left facing some slaves. The bunker will be hard to get because on the other side were I got 2 mournfangs and 3 ogres.
On turn 2 & 3 my 4 mournfangs have killed 21 and 50 slaves. I put 4 wounds on the bell with magic missiles before combat and a lot of wounds in 4 units with a comet. On turn 5 I am able to combo charge 4 mournfangs on the flanc and the gutstar on the front of the stormvermin unit. They will flee and get catched.
We have to stop the game on turn 5 and my opponent got only 2 mournfangs, 3 ogres, some gnoblars and cat. I take the stormvermins unit & bell, all slaves, 2 canons, the giant rats, 2 small casters so it ends up being a 18-2 victory for me.
For those who havent play against stormfiends I can tell you: these things are shooting like hell! 3D6 per model touching on 4+ (ignoring movement and long range) Str 5 armor piercing rerolling to wound and can move like skriminshers!
After this game I m staying on first place and Im facing the guy who comes with me and is 2nd and from my club for the final.
Game 3: Wood Elves
My friends list: L4 Death Book of Ashur on Elven Steed, L4 Heaven DS MR3 on Elven Steed, L1 Shadow Elven Steed, BSB with the shooting item GW on elven steed, 3 core embushed fast cav: 12 with poison, 6 with poison, 9 with no shooting penalty, 10 waywatchers, 2x7 wild riders, 7 sisters of the torn, 1 great eagle.
I helped him to build his list and we played a test game which he wons 13-7 wo I am not so confident about facing it. I know that purple sun & shooting can end the game quickly. If I get a tie or a small lost I can remain on the first place so I wont take much risks
On turn 1 he destroys my first IB but miscasts and goes to the warp with the heavens L4. There is no LoS anymore on the sisters! So on my turn 1 I tried to shoot at the general but misfires (n2 so no shooting ). After this we will do a combat of movement. Very few combat but Im able to block the BSB in combat with the ogres and counter charge.
I had a big opportunity to on turn 5 when I charged on the flancs of the sisters with 1 cat and tried to charge with the butcher alone on the front but end up failing to roll the 10 which was needed. He rolls his attacks and does 2 poison out of 3 attacks on the cat so killing him ^^
At the end he charges my 4 mournfangs and ends up killing them. I charge the other wild riders unit with my 2 mournfangs and kill them. I also take the BSB and it takes the 2 mournfangs by shooting. It ends up being a 10-10
So I win the tournament after this intensive game. Very happy about it because it is the first time I win a single tournament.
Thoughts on the OK List & ETC comp[/u]
I really think that my list is strong against a lot of opponents. It should be one of the best OK alternatives for the ETC comp where we do have some difficulties against top armies. I dont think we particularly shine since the 50% errata but the L4 Heavens and 2x IB combo can help to have some counters against most of the armies.
I really enjoyed playing this list! Anyway I think I didnt faced the scariest lists on this day. The WC one could have been much more competitive (lord on disc, deamon prince, )
Thanks for reading!
