I didn't notice this article upon its first passing...
Brainfreezer makes a good point, it's hard to imagine magic in our world, and so a major advantage that most WH armies have against Ogres is lost there immediately.
Even imagining the invasion, it would drastically change American history; it would be right before the Civil War erupts, so it could change the outcome (or even maybe prevent it from happening, if the nation is too busy fighting for survival). Assuming that the fledgling nation could survive the attack, with the original scenario presented of the Ogres invading from the Canadian territories, it would easily devastate most of the northern lands before they were pushed back, which would weaken the North and possibly have given the Confederacy an advantage once they defected. (Who knows, maybe even a Confederate conspiracy could have provoked the Ogres into invading, thus weakening the North for a hostile takeover?)
Now, are the Ogres actually one mass army, sent down specifically to attack the US? Or is it more like a grand Ogre exodus/invasion of many tribes, running amok amongst the mainlands of continental America?
Let's also look at the fact that if the Ogres
were coming down to invade, they'd also be probably attacking French colonies, as well as having to face field battles with the few free Native American nations left; I think the horseback tribes could easily keep the Ogres at bay, by kiting them effectively. The tribes that fought more in the forests by hand, however... probably would not be quite as successful. Perhaps, some of the tribes would make alliances with the United States (as well as the French) to train and prepare all the humans to be able to fight the monstrosities. Ogres are too blunt, and could easily be led through a forest into a deathtrap if they don't have a proper Tyrant to knock their heads about a bit!
I dunno. This is a fun exercise. And if the Americas had magic available to them, what would they use to stop these Ogres?
