Expanding My Army

original thread ↗

I have 9 bulls and 9 Ironguts so far for my core units. I have the bodies and parts to build either 9 more bulls or ironguts but don't know how to divide them. Having only several games with ogres under my belt I thought I would seek more veteran wisdom on what would be most beneficial. I was leaning toward 9 more ironguts in case I ever want to run a gutstar. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Nick
If you are running a SM as your general, then the ironguts are more important because they allow the +1ld banner while regular ogres do not.  And, having a complete unit of 12 (9+3 characters) is a pretty good place to start.

If you are running a Tyrant, then many people feel that they don't need the +1 ld banner and so opt for an ogre heavy build.  They are cheaper and the ironfist parry is quite valuable to sustain the unit size while your Tyrant does the hard killing.

Alot of builds that I see also have small 3 ogre units with extra handweapons min units to help clear chaff.

I would build 3 more iron guts and 6 more bulls to give you a bona fide gutstar set-up and a variety of chaff/ogrestar builds with the rest.
Marcopollo gives good advice.
Thanks for the advice. I do plan to run a SM as my general. I would have ended up with 18 ironguts if I hadn't asked. I will plan to end up with 12 Ironguts and 15 bulls. That way I can do a gutstar with the 12 ironguts and a unit of 9 bulls as well as 2 units of 3 bulls with 2hw to clear chaff.
Good choices but buy more bodies either way and make sure you can run both units in horde formation just because.  :)  Or of course be smart and wait till 9th then re-evaluate.  :)
