2400 ETC Comp First Try

original thread ↗

This is my first go at my ETC List. Haven't play tested this yet so its pure conjecture if it will work. Please inputs are appreciated.

1 Slaughtermaster- L4, Hellheart, ToP, Ironcurse Icon, GW
1 Bruiser- BSB, Rune Maw, HA, IF, LoG
10 Ironguts- Bellower, Standard
3 Bulls- Bellower
3 Bulls- Bellower
1 Sabertusk
1 Sabertusk
1 Sabertusk
4 Mournfang- Bellower, HA IF
7 Maneaters- Full Command, HA, EhW, Gleaming Pendant, LoG, Poison, Scouts
4 Leadblecher- Bellower
1 Ironblaster
Assume there's a standard of dis on the ironguts?

Like it overall. The maneaters need pistols.
No magic standard for the IG with the exception to what the BSB is carrying. 2 reasons why I didn't give the ME pistols is 1) Points and 2) lack of finding them effective even a brace of pistols. Their BS isn't that great so they miss a lot even with the poison. Or maybe my dice as usual just hate me.
Standard of discipline effectively gives your General ld9. You can't pass that up for 15 points.

Yeah the brace of pistols is typically worth it. You can drop a leadbelcher or a maneater or the heavy armour off the maneaters to help pay for it. They average a couple of poison wounds and a few extra hits. They can kill a cannon more reliably than an ironblaster. Particularly since you're taking scout and poison anyway (if you go first they can't charge so shoot at short range!) trust me, it's worth it.
Crud I can't put the Standard of Discipline on the IG due to house rules of capping units at 450. The IG are exactly at 450 :( I did make the adjustment for the ME. Dropped one ME to give all of them BoP.
Then drop an irongut. Ld 9 vs ld 8 is a big deal.

Ld 9 fails 1 in 6 so 1 in 36 with a reroll
Ld 8 fails 5/18 or 25/324 with a re-roll, which is approx 1/13

Ld 9 is almost 3 times less likely to fail.

Or bring a tyrant. Probably cost you a unit though. Or make the maneaters poison stubborn and give them the standard of dis and make that your deathstar. Which actually works well in ETC (hey, stubborn!). Plus it frees up the gleaming pennant to give to the mournfang, which really need it if the maneaters aren't scouting.
I'm with the others. I run 9 Ironguts in my ETC list just so I can run Standard of Discipline.
the same! IG with std of disc is a must have!
Ok so this is what I revised from your suggestions:

Slaughtermaster- L4 Hellheart, ToP, Ironcurse Icon, GW
Bruiser- BSB, HA, IF, Rune Maw
Ironguts- 9 Full Command, LoG, Standard of Discipline
Bulls- 3 Bellower
Bulls- 3 Bellower
Sabertusk
Sabertusk
Sabertusk
Mournfang- 4 Crusher, Bellower
Maneaters- 6 HA, Full Command, LoG, Gleaming Pennant, Brace of Pistols (on all), Poison, Scouts
Leadbelchers- 4 Bellower
Ironblaster
Why do you play pistol maneaters?
They have poor BS compared to proper shooting troops.
They also have great S and A, with a few XHW and GW's they can tear units apart alone.
They're BS4 (very few missile troops are better!) and don't take penalties for moving and shooting and can always stand and shoot no matter how close the enemy is. Poison makes them amazing.

If you're shooting at something like an enemy cannon, an ironblaster averages 2.4 wounds (and that's assuming any non-misfire will hit, which is close but not quite accurate). 7 maneaters average 2.8 wounds per volley. You can use your maneaters essentially as an additional cannon - and with scouts they can't hide from you.
Question: How do Maneaters not take a penalty for moving and shooting? I thought that only applies to the Leadbelchers.
It's part of the Quick to Fire rule that ogre pistols have.

I had a game at the weekend and the combat maneaters (unit of 8  ) were all killed except the champ before they swung by DE exicutioners, if I'd had brace of ogre pistols would have been a different story. Dont forget BoOP act like XHW in combat anyway
Do BoOP give you an extra attack in CC?

Yup

Why would that make any difference? At least against this foe? Or do you mean you would have shot them?
