Thoughts? Model wise I'm pretty limited to that I've yet to build the leadbelchers so I'd have 10 Ogres I could build with the option to make up to 8 leadbelchers and I possibly have a couple parts to make some more ironguts. My tyrant load out is where I'm really struggling.
Never played a 3000point game but i got some tyrant builds for you.

Tyrant heavy armor, IF,  sword of antiheroes, ToPreservation, dragonhelm, other trickster shard. +4 Armor +4 ward.

Or

Tyrant heavy armor, Gw, mawseeker, tricksters helm, seed of rebirth.
Ogre record:
Win: 15
Loss: 10
Draw: 5
Races played against: Ogre, Dwarves, WoC, Demons, High elves, Skaven, Beastmen, Brittonia, Orcs and Goblins, Empire.

Last match: Vs Empire, tabled 20-0 with thundertusk being the MvP, killing 11 halibearears first round and getting ASL aura of on knights and halibearers.
I never understood a list like this one.
You only have 2 level 1 wizards, how will you defend yourself against magic? Can you really win with so little magic?
You will need some magic weapons in there as you can't really rely on magic dealing with any ethereal threats.
I think you might need to drop the Crown of Command and take a magic weapon instead, or just go with a cheap 5 point one.
Up untill now my experience has only been 3 triumph and treachery games so I've no idea what to expect at 3k. That said I fully expect to be out magic ed so I figured might aswell just rely on a clue items and try and get into combat. I will take the ruby ring off the firebelly ad that allows me more points on the tyrant. I mainly like the Firebellies for the breath attacks to clear out units before I charge or to use when I charge or maybe one of each.

I'm almost definitly totally wrong however. The only other thing I could do I guess I'd drop the leadbelchers and get in a Slaughtermaster but I feel that even then I wouldn't have enough magic to reliably get spells off.

I'll look into those tyrant builds properly at lunch time when I get get my book and see which one appeals to me the most. Possibly the first one.
As I play Empire as well, I must say Ogres have a very powerful tool for the magic phase.
That is the Grut's Sickle, running a Level 4 with Sickle gets +6 to cast, and if you use Great Maw you can even have +7 to cast easily. That is insane, that is amazing.
I don't really have any experience with it, as I'm still building and painting my army. But I have played Empire for 1+ years, so I can pretty safely talk about things like items, how powerful an army will be in each phase and so on.
Yeah the sickle is fine untill you end up rolling a double 1 and your Slaughtermaster is eaten by the unit. Which 100% will happen to me at some point. I guess it's still worth considering. If I wanted to run a Slaughtermaster then I could do something like this

Lords

Tyrant,  Ironfist, sword of anti heroes, other tricksters shard and Armour of Destiny
310

Slaughtermaster, lvl4, Dispel Scroll, Talisman of Preservation
365

Heroes
Bruiser, BSB, Great Weapon, Heavy Armour, Runemaw
205

Firebelly, lvl2, Hellheart
205

Core
9 Ironguts, Full Command, Banner of Swiftness

11 Ogres, IF, Full Command

EDIT: moved stuff around to allow me to kit out the Slaughtermaster
I like your point on magic and it raises an important issue I have with 8th edition. Your pressured to take a lvl. 4 which limits your ability to take an army that really reflects your playstyle. I say prove these naysayers wrong and stick with the first list and destroy everything. Best of luck to ya!
"Scotland, the ogre kingdoms of the real world."
Maybe its just me, but if you plan on giving the Slaughtermaster only Talisman and scroll, you might aswell have him hold the hellheart for a togher carrier (unless you plan on suicide marching the firebelly out). But i have to agree with @Crunchmunch if you dont want a lvl 4, learn to play without and kick ass :).

Well assuming I go back to my original plan of a couple of lvl1 Firebellies as dispel scroll/Hellheart/breath attacks are the leadbelchers worth it? Or do I just make the into Ogres and have a big block of standard Ogres say 16/17 and consider running them as horde with the two Firebellies.

Or as I've just realised I could run 10 guts with the tyrant and bsb along with 2 units of 8 Ogres with a Firebelly in each
So I've settled on the following

Lord

Tyrant, Heavy Armour, The Other Tricksters Shard, Sword Of Anti Heroes, Enchanted Shield, Talisman of Preservation
310

Heroes

Brusier, Bsb, Heavy Armour, Great Weapon, Runemaw
205

Firebelly, lvl 1, Dispel Scroll, Ruby Ring
170

Firebelly, lvl1, Hellheart

10 Ironguts, Full Command, Standard of Discipline

8 Ogres, IF, Full Command

Firebelly in each ogre unit, tyrant and bsb in the guts. Should be 3 solid units supported by the mournfang. I'd have liked leadbelchers as I love the models but I think just going all in on Ogres could be something to try. It's going to be a learning experience regardless.
