1000 Points Army List- Advice Sought for Newbie

original thread ↗

Afternoon all!

I am a first time poster but an avid reader of the Stronghold since my first foray into the hobby earlier this year!

I humbly come before you seeking advice. I have joined an Escalation League at my local gaming club and after a crushing victory last month in the debut for my Rotgut Tribe against the forces of the Empire, I will now be facing Orcs and Goblins in the next round in 1000 point match up.

I am restricted by the models I own at present but was wondering if you would kindly give me feedback on the draft list I have prepared as follows:

The Rotgut Tribe- 998 Points

Heroes
Butcher (Gutrot)       105 points
Rock Eye (Magic Item)

Core
6 Ironguts (The Dragon Guts)   278 Points
Bellower, Standard Bearer

Special
5 Leadbelchers (The Belchers)   215 Points

3 Maneaters (The Bad Guts)   150 Points
*HELP* What ‘Been there, done that’ choices would you suggest please?

Rare
Thundertusk (Big Gut)      250 Points

The league is semi-competitive.

I really appreciate any help and guidance you can give me. Thanks in advance!  :)
I would love to help, but first i want to ask. Is this everything you have? If not, what else do you have available?
Samurai Ogres of Nippon

Thanks Minigiant.

Sorry, on reflection it was a little foolish of me not to mention my other models. I have:

12 Ironguts (FC)
5 Leadbelchers
Thundertusk
4 Maneaters
1 Butcher
1 Tyrant
1 SM

All are painted but I haven't had chance to make any further purchases. I would love some Sabretusks and Mournfang.
You could proxy your butcher as a Firebelly if the other contestants are okay with that. He is great at low point games as your general.

Thanks for the tip Evoluo. I dropped the Bellower from the Irongut unit and substituted the Butcher for a Firebelly as suggested. It comes out at an annoying 1003!
Regarding the Maneaters, I was thinking of going for the following:

3 x Maneaters (AHW) 156

Scouts and Stubborn

I thought (in my completely amateur, and possibly naïve, mind!!) that they might present a great mechanism for getting in close and stopping the OnG from marching and triggering the inevitable fanatics!

Therefore, given Evoluo's advice above, I have changed my list to the following:

The Rotgut Tribe- 999 Points

Heroes
Firebelly (Gutrot)       120 points

Core
6 Ironguts (The Dragon Guts)   258 Points

Special
5 Leadbelchers (The Belchers)   215 Points

3 Maneaters (The Bad Guts)   156 Points
AHW
Stubborn, Scouts

Rare
Thundertusk (Big Gut)      250 Points
I've just been looking at what I would do with the models you have available. Here is what I came up with.

1x FB - lvl 2, ruby ring and dispel scroll

5x IG - Full command, standard of disc

3x LB - no upgrades

3x ME - 3x XHW, Scout, ItP

1x Thundertusk

This comes in at exactly 1000 pts.

Okay the idea behind this is fun and still be able to win something. The FB in this list is a good range offense unit. Roll for your two spells and keep fulminating flame cage or flaming sword of ruin if you can. Switch the second spell for fireball. This gives you one ball from the ring and another from the belly, and a pretty nice second spell.

Take full command on the guts, so the FB can stay in the second rank untill he has to come forward to use his flaming impact hits or breathweapon.

The 3 LB are just there to give some cover fire, blasting away redirectors.

The 3 ME will be a pain if he does not deal with them, I prefer ItP to stubborn in these small games because now they wont run from shooting. And even one or two of these will kill a warmachine with ease.

You have a thundertusk so why not use it! Love the idea of running him at 1000 pts, not very competitive but a great model and lots of fun. He works better with bulls to strike before the enemy does, but in this list I prefer the guts for the extra point of LD and the banner.

Again this is just a thought so feel free to ask or criticize.
Thanks Evoluo! I really, really appreciate you taking the time. It's really useful that you've kindly provided some info on upgrades too, as I've not really had a chance to research any. My game is actually this evening now so I'll let you know how I get on! Thanks again.
Good luck m8!
