3k ogres v bretonnia

original thread ↗

As the title suggests I'll be playing a 3k point game against my friends new bretonnia army. I've only played against them in small games before so here is my best attempt at an army to stop him.

Goldtooth
SM with glittering scales, fencers blades, dispell scroll

Bsb with rune maw great weapon, giant breaker, HA

13 bulls
6 iron guts
20 gnoblar trappers
Two units of 2 saber tusks
4 lead belchers
4 mourn fang with dragon hide banner, if, and ha
Iron blaster
Thunder tusk

The problem Im having is there doesn't seem to be much bite to the list, I've only got a tyrant, 20gnoblars, and a giant, that I haven't included in this list. I've got a week or so till the game.
My limited experience with Bretonnians has shown me a few things:

++ Don't let them get off Throne of Vines

++ Use your cats to keep them from charging

Personally, I don't field Bulls or Gnoblars, I find them too weak. I'd also field those cats as individuals. I'd go at Bretonnians with a big Gutstar, supported by that Thundertusk to make the Brets so simul with your great weapons. Drop Greasus and bring Ironguts.
A Tyrant with the Other Trickster's shard set up for combat can really hurt Bretonnians.  I personally would not run Goldtooth he makes your units just that much slower
Samurai Ogres of Nippon

I had a quick go at writing a list for you:

Tyrant - TOTS, HA, IF, SoAH, Dragonhelm, Talisman of preservation
Slaughtermaster - Level 4, Fencers blades, Glittering Scales, Dispel Scroll, Ironcurse Icon
Bruiser - BSB, HA, Great weapon, Runemaw, Mountaineater

12 Ogres - Full command, Ironfists
3 Ironguts - Bellower
3 Ironguts - Bellower
10 Gnoblars - Trappers
10 Gnoblars - Trappers
15 Gnoblars - Trappers

4 Leadbelchers - Bellower
4 Mournfang - Mus, Std, IF, HA, Dragonhide Banner

3x 1 Sabretusk

Ironblaster
Thundertusk
Giant
Samurai Ogres of Nippon

I've always worried about my saber tusks dieing to shooting, thats why i've brought them in packs of two. I was going to bring goldtooth because the size of the game I thought he would be interesting but he does slow me down quite a bit. so just use the guts as flank chargers?
There is no need for 2. With Ld 4 if 1 dies the other will likely flee
Samurai Ogres of Nippon

oh yeah that makes sense
I also think sabertusks can die easy but you can have them pritty far back behind a unit (6"+ away) or a hill/woods and still be able to march up in the way of enemy. Just dont run them up to fast.
Ogre record:
Win: 15
Loss: 10
Draw: 5
Races played against: Ogre, Dwarves, WoC, Demons, High elves, Skaven, Beastmen, Brittonia, Orcs and Goblins, Empire.

Last match: Vs Empire, tabled 20-0 with thundertusk being the MvP, killing 11 halibearears first round and getting ASL aura of on knights and halibearers.
I've been using my tusks for war machine hunting and two just seemed to work better, but I'm willing to try new strategies
I would personally ditch Rune Maw in favour of kitting out the BSB offensively unless you're using Khaine magic.  I mean, Dwellers Below is nasty, but it's only the one spell.  If you can squeeze the Hellheart in there somewhere, it goes amazing against Bretonnia.  Purely because their wizards are either in the middle of a Knight lance, or amongst Peasants.  Either way, they're going to do a lot of hurt when they explode.

Most recent result: Victory, 8000 points Ogres vs 8000 points Dwarfs
