2400 GT List

original thread ↗

There is a 100+ man event here in the UK in the next few months, I am going to attend and want to do well. My last GT with Ogres I placed 6th so I want to aim for a similar finish this time out.

Comp on Ogres is very light and is as follows:

-Crown of Command and 2nd Ironblaster, max 1
-Gnoblars never counts as Scoring units (applicable in some of the tournament missions)
-Slaughtermasters and Butchers can ignore the rule stating 1 must take Lore of the Great Maw

So very favourable comp for Ogres indeed. Basically better than no comp as we get a boost to the magic users.

Onto my list then;

==Lords==

Tyrant - 315
-Sword of Swift Slaying
-Enchanted Shield
-Heavy Armour
-Giantbreaker
-Talisman of Preservation

Slaughtermaster - 395
-Lvl 4 Lore of Heavens/Death (not decided which lore to take, maybe you can help me pick?)
-Great Weapon
-Hellheart
-Armour of Destiny

Bruiser - 205
-BSB
-Heavy Armour
-Great Weapon
-Rune Maw

Note: the tournament is a W/L/D event hence the big units that can hold their points well, normally I would go with 2 smaller units of belchers and 2 3 man units of ogres but they will just bleed points for me over the weekend.

So let me know what you think, and any input regarding magic lore will be much appreciated.

SOM
I'd take death because the gut star and the hellheart are going to be right up in combat, and heavens has a lot of missiles and ranged damage. The heavens buffs are nice but not any more advantageous than the snipes and debuffs in death.

I'd split up the ogres, despite them potentially bleeding points. There's not much that can beat three ogres that can't beat six ogres, and if they flee all the points are gone as opposed to only half if you split the units. And then there's the tactical considerations as well. I love my ogres darts, they are too big for opponents to ignore and too small to waste time chasing down. Such a great unit. Same thoughts for the leadies, if they can get the Ld7 leadies to panic that's 450 points running off the board. Split them up and not only can you split fire they will also preserve half their points if one unit flees. I've used both two small units and one big unit and I much preferred the smaller units, the flexibility did more for me than the sheer firepower (if leadies can be considered to have firepower, roll like me and you'll wish you had just taken mournfang!).

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah i do kinda agree with everything you have said, all 3 of your points; Death Magic, 3 man bull darts and splitting the leadbelchers were all my gut instinct ideas for the list in the first place. Trouble is I have too many people in my gaming group and they make me play Devils Advocat with myself.

I think I will go ahead and split up the Ogres and the Leadbelchers, saving me 10pts. not exactly sure where to put them, might stick a cheeky banner in on one of the bull darts, just to help my breaking point a little. Any other ideas?

Cheers!
Looks like a solid list to me. I would consider sword of anti-heroes for the tyrant. Makes him deadly. Not a big fan of giantbreaker. He has decent initiative anyway and problebly wont die in one round. With anti hero he gets lots of attacks back at a good initiative with high str. (You usually get 2 characters buff in my experience.)
Ogre record:
Win: 15
Loss: 10
Draw: 5
Races played against: Ogre, Dwarves, WoC, Demons, High elves, Skaven, Beastmen, Brittonia, Orcs and Goblins, Empire.

Last match: Vs Empire, tabled 20-0 with thundertusk being the MvP, killing 11 halibearears first round and getting ASL aura of on knights and halibearers.
Interesting shout on the Sword of AH, i always worry about using it and never getting in that sweet situation of couple extra strength and attacks. Could be worth a shout though to really scare characters and deathstars.
Looks like a fun list.

Is this the Midlands GT by the way? I'm hopefully looking at taking my Ogres for their first tournament there! The choice of magic lore is really what i'm finding it difficult to choose right now.
Good eye, yes this is for Midlands GT. Stuck between taking my Ogres or my High Elves.
