Thrugg the Avalanche

original thread ↗

So whilst I was making my army I came up with a theme and some fluff which the guys on my gnoblog liked. It got me thinking of how I would make my general a special character to suit his fluff let me know if you guys think this is balanced

Fluff for thrugg: Thrug has been the tyrant of the rustyguts since before the ogre kingdoms were united under the overtyrant. Even before that, Thrug had a powerful reputation amongst the ogres of his tribe. Almost permanently drunk, he would literally fall into combat, laying about on all sides and flattening anything in the way of his heavily inebriated bulk. This gave him the title of "the Avalanche". Upon becoming tyrant, Thrug sat in a drunken stupor until word of Greasus' slight spurred him into a craze. Now he whirls into combat at the head of a great migration in search of shiny things until the overtyrant changes his mind. The only thing between Thrug and his booty is his need of constant alcohol, he has been drunk for so long he fears the hangover may kill him.

Thrugg (lord)           6      6       4     5    6    5     4    5    9

Points: 300

Troop type: Monstrous infantry (character)

Equipment: Heavy Armour Avalanche clubs: Paired weapons, the avalanche clubs give Thrugg D3 impact hits on his ogre charge (D3+1 if the charge roll is 10 or higher).

Special rules: Ogre charge, Fear

Disgusting stench
The stench of decades of stale alcohol pollute the air around Thrugg, choking anyone who gets too close. Those in his retinue have developed means to defend themselves (nose plugs mostly) from his offensive stench, the unprepared are not so lucky...

Enemy units in base contact with Thrugg suffer a -1 to hit in close combat.

"Pour the drink!"
Thrugg never goes anywhere without a huge stash of alcohol strapped to his back, which his "booze gnoblars" give him at frequent intervals normally this is just before he charges headfirst into combat. At the beginning of each new combat roll d6 and consult the drink table to see what the gnoblars have given thrugg. The effects of the drink last until the end of that combat (except in the case of water).

Drink table

1 - Water Thrugg starts to feel the oncoming hangover, he suffers from stupidity until his next drink.
2,3 - Bugman's Ale The draught revives Thrugg, giving him and his unit stubborn.
4,5 - Reikland Brandy The powerful liquor gives thrugg some extra punch, he has +1 S and +1 A
6 - Caledor firewine This rare but potent drink drive Thrugg into a drunken Frenzy, also thrugg gains an additional attack for each 6 he rolls when rolling to hit. These attacks do not benefit from this rule.

I think I'd play with this guy at least once. That -1 to hit alone would be a great advantage in a gutstar.

I would assume that you only roll on the drink table if Thrugg is in combat? Or does he roll every "combat phase"?
34 Gnobs! Over 3 Packs of Trappers! Woot!
Gibblet, Nibblet, Crunchybit, and Snorti! (For rules clarification on dwarf Snorri banner )

New book WLD: 21/11/3 - Got trounced by one of the "Khaine" elf armies... Stupid new rules...

Yeah only if in combat so effects last until the combat ends

Seems like an interesting character. This guy is so dead from shooting but I suppose every tyrant is...

All in all the rules are all interesting and individually, they're balanced. But together, with OK special rules - the -1 to hit, extra IH and potential for frenzy and additional attacks makes me think he should be more points!
NEW?

Hey.... Just because ALL of our existing special characters are obscenely over priced doesn't mean fan made ones should be too!
Well if anyone wants to try using him in a game let me know how he fares :)
