How to compete with Endtimes lists...

original thread ↗

Im trying to build my list for Brawlers but im running into some problems.  Under Endtimes Elven armies can take a Banner of the World Dragon list backed up by 8 bolt throwers and other filler.  Daemon armies can take 2-3 Greater Daemons, WoC now have access to cannons.  How can Ogres compete with this?  I mean 2 Ironblasters and Runemaw Banner are an auto-include but outside of that I am finding it difficult to build the rest of the list that will put up a fight.  Any ideas?
It's finally time. It's finally come to this. It's come to ... 18 scouting maneaters. See how far the BotWD helps you there!
I guess it has.
Play to your strengths, if you're worried about cannons aim to be in combat by turn 1-2.  18 Scouting Maneaters could be hilariously amazing.  I want to see this happen.  I want to make this happen!

If only I had that many ME.  That would be hilarious.

Been there.... done that... utterly hilarious! There is a fundamental game plan one must adhere to when using a unit like this

1. Deploy 18 Scouting Maneaters
2. ......
3. Profit!  :D
I tried the 18 scouting ME with all gnoblar core for exactly 1 game.  Had I done it for a 2nd game, then I doubt I would have been able to find opponents for a 3rd...

My list was something like:

2500 pts
Golgfag (General)
Bruiser (BSB, Look-out Gnoblar, HA, BoOP, Pigeon Plucker Pendant, Crown of Command)
Firebelly (Level 2, Lore of Fire, Dispel Scroll, Ruby Ring of Ruin)
10 units of 10 Gnoblars (Trappers)
1 unit of 30 Gnoblars (FC, Trappers)
18 Maneaters (Scout, Stubborn, FC, HA, Gleaming Pennant)
6 Leadbelchers (Bellower)
Wildcards's Ogre achievements: 78/101

8th edition: 92/24/9
Recent results:  My ogres place 13th Overall at the US Masters (78 players);  My ogres place 2nd Overall at Brawler Bash (65 players).

I was having a bad day until I saw this list... put a smile on my face from ear to ear! THAT IS AWESOME!

I am curious as to where the BSB and Firebelly were placed, to my understanding characters without scout cannot join a scouting unit

But i got to say i really want to play a scouting Maneater horde now
Samurai Ogres of Nippon

I'd say the BSB and Firebelly would go in the Leadbelchers, to provide a solid backup for the Maneaters

Well it is the only place they can go, it just doesnt seem 'clean' if you know what i mean
Samurai Ogres of Nippon

That would be amazingly fun but I think Karl Franz ascended or the eternity king would still walk through that unit
Nice thing about Brawlers, those insane characters aren't allowed.

It's just lucky that the Belchers can't have a standard....can you imagine the destruction a large unit of them with the Flaming Banner could do

Ah my bad, I missed the bit about Brawlers
I'm assuming Golfag would be in with the Leadbelchers as well, since he can't scout either.

For the amount of points Goldfang is he should have come with BoOP and a GW, the option to use either if he didnt have a magic weapon, as well as a rule that said he could join any unit of Maneaters and use their special rules.  Even then he might still be overlooked...

He's a Maneater, the original Maneater. He does gain the rules on units he joins. He just can't start the game with a unit that has scout as he, himself does not have scout.

See the FAQ http://www.games-workshop.com/resources/PDF/Errata/Warhammer/Ogre_Kingdoms_EN.pdf

Now I realize this specifically refers to his unit on Maneaters however as he is himself considered a Maneater he will gain the rules of any unit he can legally join

I agree this is correct, although when the game was played (in 2011 - Ha!), I think we allowed it.

To make it fully RAW complaint - change out Scout for Vanguard.  Nearly the same benefit.

Full gunline and hellheart.  Poison Brace Maneaters are pretty much mandatory too, if the environment is allowing the super characters into the fray.  Maelekith we are pretty much hosed against, though, due to the nature of his armor.

Quick question,  just trying to figure out what I am missing here,  I know with EoT that heroes can go up to 50% of the list, which is good since by my calculation heroes here cost 654.   My question though is, how is this list legal?  when I plugged everything in I came to 2554, and special came to 1275 (1250 is limit)   If I drop down to 17 maneaters I do not have the issue.   Is my math off somewhere?
I could be wrong, but when I punched it in the list that actually totalled up was:

2500 pts
Golgfag (General)
Bruiser (BSB, Look-out Gnoblar, HA, BoOP, Pigeon Plucker Pendant, Crown of Command)
Firebelly (Level 2, Lore of Fire, Dispel Scroll, Ruby Ring of Ruin)
10 units of 10 Gnoblars (Trappers)
1 unit of 30 Gnoblars (FC, Trappers)
17 Maneaters (Scout, Stubborn, FC, HA, Gleaming Pennant)
6 Leadbelchers (Bellower)

(54pts just happens to be the cost of a heavy armour maneater)

Yes, it is 17x ME's (with Golgfag it is a full 6x3).

Again, you need to run Vanguard not Scout to be legal (Golgfag cannot Scout - but he does gain Vanguard/Stubborn).

You do not even need Stubborn if you are willing to take the risk of rolling high enough for Golgfag to take Crown of Command
Samurai Ogres of Nippon

another realization I just had.  I assume this list is using the new errata for allowed hero cost?

otherwise it goes over the 25% allotment by 29 points
Virtually everyone is allowing the 50% lords and heroes errata now. ETC and Swedish Komp have adapted their comp to incorporate it (and the lore of Undeath).
