The way of the Ogre

Hi everyone!

A couple of weeks ago I've decided to build an Ogre team to play in my Bloodbowl League, the NABBO League (we have a small blog with some pics and fluff if you feel like having a peek:http://nabboleague.blogspot.pt/).
I had an Ogre plastic regiment box around for quite some time (bought just because, in a shop clear-out a few years ago), and since I'm a loony for conversions, it ended up being the perfect excuse to start repositioning arms and legs of the poor ogres...

Anyway, while at it, I remembered I had a BB Ogress Star Player (from a BB US tournament, Zlurpee Bowl, 2009, if I'm not mistaken), and this could be the perfect opportunity to start thinking about paint schemes for the team, and paint her in the process.

So, here she is, Lova Taytoopoo, first in bare metal, and with some primer afterwards.

Aha!  Spotted your Gnoblog after I posted in your Hello topic.

Great thing about our basic ogres is they come with lots of Ironfists which fit in so well for BB.  There was a Gnoblog around here somewhere where one of the fella's done some really simple conversions to Ironfists (adding extra spikes, cutting some oof, etc) just to make them more individual.  They came out well and would be a good extra to make your players stand out from one another.

I also really like your Female ogre there if only for the Ball and chain.  There some real gags there if you stick "Her Husband" in the team.  He can say "oh here comes the Ball and chain!"

She did came with an extra arm without weapons, but since her tournament house rules gave her the ball&chain I've decided to keep it. Not that she needs it to look like a menace in the pitch, I mean...

The basic ogres box is really nice, since you only need one to have all ogres you'll ever need for your team (max of 6). Afterwards you just have to pick "snots" you like (8 to 10 will be enough), and that it.
Possibly one of the cheapest teams to build.
One of the hardest to manage and play with, but as long as you like mayhem and are a good sports, you'll have loads of fun!
At least that's my plan...
 

First update on the blog...

Finally managed to get a couple of hours to dedicate to this project!
I've decided to go for a Maori skin tone, and so far it has four or five thin layers of ink.
Started with a very dark brown straight to the mini, and after it dried, added small portions of "medium flesh" in each layer painted.
It still seems a bit too dark, so I may have to go back to it.
And then possibly add some tattoos.

The pic quality isn't that great (both skin, the dress white's and the pinks have a bit more depth then it shows), but I hope it's proof enough for the February "Monthly Painting Chalenge" she's taking part in (I'm having a really busy end of the month and I needed to have this done asap).

As I mentioned earlier in the blog, I'm currently converting an Ogre team from the GW plastics.
So far, all the choping/repositioning is already done, and I'm pretty close to finish with the green stuff too.
I intend to post a couple pics when the GS is complete.

Game wise is a very "challenging" team to coach (to say the least), and more often than not all game plans go down the drain with failed Bone Head tests or their stressful "inability to learn" the Block skill.
Still, massed Mighty Blow is a fantastic thing to have (and a lovely thing to inspire fear in most adversaries).

Haha do not experience that currently, 4 Black Orcs and 4 Blitzers allows me to grind down most teams. I think Orcs are the best league team in the game.

In previous posts, I've mentioned being in the process of converting an Bloodbowl Ogre team.
For those not familiar to Bloodbowl rules, teams can have up to 16 players. In the case of an Ogre team, you build it with up to two different positionals: the Ogres - big and strong, but not very agile (or smart), and the Snotlings - tiny, squishy, short movement, but very cheap to replace (and in fact a very important part of the team).
You can have up to 6 Ogres (max) in your team, and up to 16 of the snotlings (heck, you can do a team entirely of snotlings, if you fell "adventurous" enough...)

After some math done (planing on how I intend to build and develop the team), I've decided that 8 of the squishy snots would - hopefully - be enough for the starting team (Edit:I may go into team composition later if someone shows interest on it), whom will be "supervised" by 4 ogres.
After the initial games, as money flows in, I'll buy the two remaining ogres (to the max allowed).

This is how the snotlings have turned out, after some repositioning, conversions, and green stuff added. Some have simple weapon snips (or hand switch for a different one), but others required some more extensive knife work to remove bits on their belts, or around the body.
Green stuff was used essentially to make them helmets and boots - it wont improve their survivability but at least went they go down (and they will, in droves), they'll look like "pros"...

And here are the Ogres - the driving force behind the team!

In order to add some dynamics to the team, I felt I should reposition them, so, aside from having the arms glued in different positions (other then the intended ones from the box), I've also a cuted a few legs and ankles to change them slightly. This obviously led to some gaps in the mini, and while some where easily covered, others needed big "muscular reconstruction" to make the mini look right (generically, the biggest gaps where the sections under and behind the arms).

After most of the muscle parts where done, I've returned to conversions with plastic bits, to add some armour, which was followed to a final session of GS, to add leather straps, helmets, some hair, etc.
Finally, and since I want them to be "sponsored" (fluff wise) by a big city of the Empire, I decided to sculpt one "fancy leg" on the pants, to give them a more wealthy look.

Very nice, what colour scheme are you going for?

Tough one.
That is exactly where I am right now, searching for colour schemes that I like and feel that suits them, and at the same time, that haven't been used (at least to some extent) by any of our league teams.
I'm also in the process of picking a name for them (and eventually making a logo).

They look great. I like the dynamic poses and can't wait to see them painted.

Meanwhile, and since they might have to face more developed teams on the pitch, here is my version of some of the available "Star Players" (to occasionally add to the team), and help them in the glorious task of maiming the opposition: Bomber Dribblesnot (bomb thrower), Nobbla Blackwart (chainsaw welding looney), and Scrappa Sorehead (pogoer).



 

Nice count as, i really loved the feel of the classic versions of these and i think you captured that essence pretty well

I do have two of the mentioned stars (Nobbla and Scrappa), but I really love converting stuff and happen to have extra "snots"...

Besides, after some quick math, I've found that later on, those may also be able to play as a goblin team if I want: keep two "ogres" to cont as "trolls", and switch the other four ogres of the team by the four available weapons to the goblins (the three above plus ball & chain).
I guess over the next days I will most likely be converting a Ball & Chain goblin too...

Did I mention I love converting stuff?

Looking good!! I played with Nobbla and Bomber at Chaos Cup last year in my Ogre roster and they were a lot of fun. Your models look better than mine though!!

Just a small-ish update on this project to show the Apothecary I've added to the team...






(Unfortunatly) I have been really work-busy lately, and haven't had the opportunity to start painting them yet. Unlike for converting stuff, to start "painting sessions" I need at least 2 or 3 hours of free time, otherwise I feel I'm just wasting ink on the palette...
