Ogres vs dwarfs

original thread ↗

Hello, ive recently been playing vs dwarfs and ive been getting beaten pretty bad. My oponent gives his characters 2 runes one that does d3 multiple wounds and one that does d6, Soooo yeah my characters get killed in one turn and dont even get to hit back and the rest of my unit gets masacred. Any tips vs these runes?
The first thing I have to say is read the Know Your Enemy section for the thread there. Then as for what I think, if you use Vanguard maneaters along with sabertusks and Dragonhide banner MFC, you should be ready to disrupt him with those before your core gets in. Also a Firebelly is nice to have. Also nice to have will be bonus strength and regen buffs, they should give the most mileage for offense/defence. As for artillery, take two ironblasters.
Thanks for reading and until next time... Stay hungry!
regen
toughness
iceshard blizzard
potion of speed

helps alot, i played dwarfs for many years but there are many builds like that.  assasin with weeping blade, and warlord with felblade.  so nothing new
They are dwarfs you can use your speed to dictate combat. Use Chaff to redirect, annoy his units and pick off units without those characters.

Use Cannons to weaken his units

How are you playing multiple runes? because multiple wounds dont carry over from model to model to my understanding. 4 wounds and a roll of a 6 per wound would still only kill 4 ogres. May want to get that double checked

That is also a lot of points spent on what amounts to anti-ogre weapons - but whatever.

First, if he has both of those badboys in one unit, avoid it with your characters.

Second, The rune of might (which doubles strength and d3 wounds if you invest in it enough) only works on t5 or higher creatures - don't fight it with characters and certainly don't buff toughness when in combat with it. The d6 wounds thing is a bit of a problem, but he's only going to be swinging at strength 4 so its not terrible.

Your best units against them will be either mournfangs (t4 so rune of might is worthless, and their 2+ armor will probably be a 4+ versus them) or maneaters (tons of s5 attacks, apply trollguts). Can also try sniping them out, going to be somewhat tricky but their runic weapon budget will be busted by those fancy axes.
Usually with dwarfs the trouble is making it to them without taking too much of a thrashing from their war machines!

But as far as dwarf characters being too much to handle? You could try to use a potion of speed. Try and kill him before he has a chance to strike. You could also consider a Greedy Fist - it doesnt sound reliable but I think it should work on a runed-up weapon.

Just some thoughts!
Also dwarves are slow, so plenty of shots before they get into combat. Always fire the ironblasters through the problem characters, I've killed an uncanny number of characters that way. Ok you can't rely on it but it does feel pretty good when you manage to take out the dwarf Lord that fails the look out sir. Might just be me but it does seem to happen quite a lot.

The other think is the number 6 maw spell which is pretty nasty against dwarfs, but it's pretty risky as it is one of the best spells at killing ogres too.
