THE HALL OF THE MAD DWARF KING
This is one of a few battle reports left over from before. Actually, more a narrative than a full blown report.
XXXXX
There is a tale told amongst the ogres of a mad Dwarf King that lives under the mountains surrounded by his fabulous treasure. The entrance to the Dwarven Hold can still be seen and many Ogres have tried their luck. None have returned.
The story is recorded in an old Ogre prophecy which includes these lines:
When ten survive while all else fall,
Its time to brave the Dwarven Hall.
Some Ogres believe that this is a reference to the various tribes of Ogres and that some calamity will destroy all but ten of them and the survivors will then be able to claim the mad Dwarfs treasure. Others think it is just a load of pretentious claptrap.

Koshtra Belorn and the Ouroborean Slaughtermaster Melikaphkhaz Mawskull, surveyed all that was left of the raiding party he had set off to raid the Dwarf caravan. Muttering darkly he eyed them one by one.
Complete shambles. I have half a mind to throw you all from the mountains peak for your incompetence and failure.
If I might interject her, your bad-temperedness, interjected Melikaphkhaz Mawskull. Have you seen how many are left?
Now is not the time for a maths lesson, grumbled the Tyrant.
Just give it a try, coaxed the Slaughtermaster.
One, two . nine, ten, said the Tyrant with some effort.
And does not the phrase When ten survive while all else fall, not stir any memories?
Realisation dawned on Koshtra Belorns face. Right, saddle up you lot, we have a journey in front of us.

A stiff climb later, the party arrived at the gates of the Mad Dwarfs palace. Here they paused for a group portrait to be carved into the mountain face.

The Hall of the Mad Dwarf King was a cavern-creeping game played using the rules for Space Hulk but modified for the fantasy environment.
The Ogre party split into 2 assault teams.
Team Krothering:

Krothering Ice. Bruiser with Ogre pistol and magic sword (Sergeant with bolter and sword).
Kestawaick Peak and Arlan Mouth. Maneaters with brace of pistols (Marines withy bolters).
Morna Morunan. Ogre with 2 hand weapons (Marine with lightning claws)

Team Tormerish:

Tormerish Tivarandadale. Bruiser with magic weapon and shield (Sergeant with thunder hammer and storm shield).
Nantreganaon Reach, Throstle Drake and Onwardlithe Falls. Maneaters with brace of pistols (Marines withy bolters).

Forcing open the gates, the teams filed into the entrance hall.

*** Right, said Koshtra Belorn. Your chance to redeem yourselves. Get in there and find the treasure.

Four tunnels led off, two heading downwards into the cave while two smaller tunnels led off to either side. Leaving two Ogres in overwatch to guard the subsidiary openings, the teams formed up ready to enter the two main tunnels.

It was already apparent that the tunnels and doorways were not designed for Ogres and there was a lot of banging and cursing as the Bruisers imposed order on their teams and arranged their formations.
Right, you lot, said Tormerish Tivarandadale. Follow me. Nantrganaon - you go first.
Down went the doors and the teams entered the tunnels. In the entrance hall, the ogres left on overwatch stood back to back guarding the entrances to the side tunnels.

The first stretch of tunnels was covered without incident and the teams came upon two more doors blocking their progress.

Scratching sounds could be heard coming from the room beyond the doors and it was with some trepidation that the doors were opened. Stepping inside, the Ogres found themselves in a large(ish) pillared chamber with some furnishings. Three tunnels led onwards with two more side tunnels, one on either flank.

Worryingly, the sound of gunfire could be heard in the distance.

*** Why have you stopped shooting? Have you killed all of yours?

As soon as it had started the shooting stopped. Thats all right then, said Krothering Ice. Theyve dealt with whatever it was.

*** Oh no they havent.

Lets push on leaving Maneaters to guard these side tunnels.

Selecting two of the tunnels, the Ogres advanced. But they had not gone far when the sound of warning shouts could be heard as Cave Trolls erupted into the pillared chamber. In the close confines the Maneaters on overwatch found themselves assaulted from several direction and could not manoeuvre to find shooting positions to cover all approaches.
They found themselves overwhelmed and it was only the timely return of Zora Rach who illuminated the darkness with a well-placed fireball that allowed the Ogres to break clean. although

It was here that Kestaiwick Peak was killed by a chunk of masonry swung by a Troll.

Fighting clear, Zora Rach raced to rejoin his team.

*** Ive got a bad feeling about this.
The Firebelly was caught and cut down as he fled as Trolls rushed forward from every direction to slay the intruders.

Fighting their way onwards, the Ogres finally found themselves at the doors of the throne room.
With their Troll pursuers close on their heels, no time was lost in forcing open the doors.
Inside, the ogres could see the grandeur of the hall, split with a raised dais and with treasure spilling out over the floor. More Trolls were guarding the hall but these were quickly despatched, although not before Morna Morunan fell to a vicious claw.

The few remaining Ogres looked around but there were no other exits. They were trapped with the sound of more Trolls advancing outside the chamber ready to attack at any moment.

The Ogres readied themselves for a last stand when, Throstle Drake spoke up: Have you noticed anything odd about these tunnels?
His remark was met with a stunned silence.
Well, I mean, Trolls can see in the dark, so who lit all the fires and torches down here?
The Bruiser Tormerish caught on. You mean there must be someone else down here. Someone like a Dwarf? And since we have not found anyone so far, they must have come this was and there must be another exit from this room. Quick, search for it.
As they pulled the furniture from the walls, a bookcase came crashing down revealing a doorway. Tormerish pushed his bulk though the door to the bolthole and found a set of stairs leading to another tunnel.

This wasnt over yet .
