2000 Starter list

original thread ↗

Just got back into Warhammer after a long hiatus (4 years). Coming back in and doing a tale of gamers with my local GW as a refresher and chosen to do ogres. Looking for comments on army composition.

Tyrant (with IG): 260
Heavy Armour
Fencer's Blades
Dragon helm

Butcher (with IG): 144
Level 2 Lore of Great Maw
Great weapon

Butcher (with Ogres): 159
Level 2 Lore of Beasts
Great Weapon
Obsidian trinket

Ogres x 6: 227
Ironfists
Full command
Lookout

Ironguts x 7: 351
Full command
Lookout
Lichebone Pennant

Leadbelchers x 3: 139
Bellower

Mournfangs x 2: 150
Heavy Armour
Ironfists
Standard

Mournfangs x 2: 150
Heavy Armour
Ironfists
Standard

Ironblaster: 170

Stonehorn: 250
Harpoon launcher

Total: 2000

Curious if I should combine the mournfangs into one unit. Also possible switching out the second butcher for a firebelly. Any suggestions welcome. =)

I agree with the idea of combining the mournfang unit, do not go full command though, just have standard and musician.

Firebelly vs second butcher is personal preference, LotGM has great buff spells already and I believe the aggressiveness of fire compliments it well. Plus flaming attacks are always great to strip off regen before your ogres hit.

Note: if played correctly stone horn and mournfang can sweep an entire back line, remember units that flee always have to run from most numerous enemy  8)

Did GW happen to help you put this list together at all?  Just curious.

Needs Sabretusks.

Jimmy No I picked the models I liked the look of, although must admit originally had the four mournfangs combined then saw some posts on here about using them as support units. Thanks for the suggestion what would you get rid of to make room for sabertusks?

Mawaaagh! Thanks may have to do some rejigging, if I went firebelly which caster should I put with the Ironguts??
"Scotland, the ogre kingdoms of the real world."
I would say put the firebelly in the unit closer to the mournfang, if the MFC won't have dragonhide banner the you may want to try and give them flaming sword of Ruin, goodbye multi would regen monsters and most ethereal beings

One more thing, I would use standard of discipline instead of lichbone pennant, not sure what your gaming meta looks like but unless you are facing only super magic heavy armies then that extra leadership will be more useful than the extra magic resistance

Maybe try to fit in a dispel scroll too on one of your casters
OK so reconfigured this is the new list, let me know what you think

Lords:

Tyrant - 260
Dragon Helm, HA, Fencers Blades

Heroes:
Butcher - 144
Level 2 (LoGM), Great Weapon

Butcher - 169
Level 2 (Beasts), Great weapon, Dispel Scroll

Core:

Ogres x 6 - 227
FC, Lookout, IF

Ironguts x 7 - 326
Standard, Bellower, Lookout

Special:

Leadbelchers x 3 - 139
Bellower

Mournfangs x 4 - 315
HA, IF, Standard, Bellower, Standard of discipline

Rare:

Ironblaster - 170

Stonehorn - 250
Harpoon launcher

Plan is to put LoGM butcher and Tyrant in Ironguts as a jack of all trades centre holder with the ogres that have the beasts butcher in. Mournfangs and Stonehorn act as linebreakers/charge support and Ironblaster and Leadbelchers provide chaff/monster clearance.
"Scotland, the ogre kingdoms of the real world."
This list NEEDS a BSB. Every Ogre army above 1600 points should include a BSB purely to try and counter act our terrible Ld.
Yupp you need a BSB, ogres tend to run away easy otherwise. Drop the leadbelchers and maybe on lvl on the lotgm butcher. Decent equipped bsb costs about 180p
Ogre record:
Win: 15
Loss: 10
Draw: 5
Races played against: Ogre, Dwarves, WoC, Demons, High elves, Skaven, Beastmen, Brittonia, Orcs and Goblins, Empire.

Last match: Vs Empire, tabled 20-0 with thundertusk being the MvP, killing 11 halibearears first round and getting ASL aura of on knights and halibearers.
Dropping the leadbelchers and a level on the LoGM Butcher gives me 174, replaced with Bruiser with BSB, HA, Enchanted Shield, Talisman of endurance - 169, then give tyrant potion of foolhardiness for the remaining 5 sound ok?

Gleaming pennant on the mournfangs and std of discipline on ironguts.
Dropped an ogre and gave the tyrant a crown of command to counteract the lack of a BSB, put the mournfangs back to 2 units of 2, planning on using them as more of a support than mainline hitter. Now have Ld 9 Stubborn gutstar with maw butcher and Tyrant, along with a second anchor unit of bulls with the beasts butcher. MFC and Stonehorn act as charge support whilst Ironblaster and Leadies deal with other threats. Managed to keep both wizards lvl 2 and end up with a total of 10 units for deployment purposes (7 on the board).

Better??

Ideal for fleeing then rallying however.

After looking at the revised list myself, I was thinking of a few changes.

First,  I think your heroes would be better if you were to take a kitted out Slaughter Master and Bruiser BSB, since I  feel two Butchers and Tyrant don't really do a good job. (I guess you could take SM Firebelcher Bruiser if you wanted to be magic heavy).

Then I think you need to include a bigger number of core troops, since your heroes will be sitting in core, so taking either 12 Bulls or Guts to attach heroes to in 4-wide ranks will be really formidable.

Last of all, I think replacing the Stonehorn with a second cannon / more Leadbelchers to make the list stronger, since if you are worried about needing more support or having something that doesn't die to cannons those are better.
Thanks for reading and until next time... Stay hungry!
Thanks for all the suggestions definitely thinking of having more ogres/ironguts, tbh I'm not trying to make a super competitive list but one I will enjoy playing hence the blender tyrant and stonehorn who I know aren't exactly meta. I've never been one for magic heavy armies (dwarfs were my first army) hence the combat lord choice :)
"Scotland, the ogre kingdoms of the real world."
Stonehorn can be incredibly usefull. I managed to cut down a unit of 20 isch hammerers (i think they where, dwarves with gw) and run them down. It has also single handly breaked and killed a frost phonix.
