Yaaargh fellow Tyrants - new player

original thread ↗

Raarrrrgh..... It's face smashing time!

Hi fellow ogre players,

So brought myself a bundle of ogre goodness today, moving on from my WofC & empire, a new project for 2015!

So my friends..... What did I get...... Well!

Army book (of course)
Ogre battalion
2x boxes of iron guts (got these for WofC but only ran them once)
2x boxes of mourn fang (liking them..... Oh yes!)
Stonehorn
Iron blaster
2x boxes sabertusks
Slaughter master
Firebelly
Ogre maneater paymaster (will try to convert it into a bsb)

So this should give me a good start for a 2k army maybe higher?

So any tips on SM, BSB, items, auto includes & do's or don't's?!

Many many thanks in advance

GuroG.

Welcome!  Glad to see more tyrants around here :)

It looks like you have plenty to play with, so you should have no problems making a good 2k list.

That has a lot of links and information to get you started.

Regarding kit for the characters: it depends on what you want to do.  Some nice things to have: hellheart, dispel scroll, a ward save, and crown of command (split between your characters, obviously).

If you intend to have your slaughtermaster be a combat brute, try the fencers blades, glittering scales, greedy fist combo.  This means that most things hit you on 5 or 6, you hit most things on 3, you have str 5, and you strip wizard levels.  If you take him with Maw, you can buff and heal yourself.

If you want your slaughtermaster to be a great caster, use your firebelly as a butcher for the maw tax, take heavens on the SM, and give him a 4+ ward and gruts sickle:  You now have +6 to cast, rather than the usual +4.  Drop comets, shoot lightning, buff your guys, and do it all while drawing more dispel dice per cast.  Just beware of the 1/32 chance of losing your general at the end of the magic phase.

For the firebelly, usually, just take either the dispel scroll or the hellheart on him.  If he's with ironguts, leave him with just a hand weapon so that he strikes first and can strip regen.  If he's in the second row of ogres or something, give him a great weapon to add some extra punch to the unit.  Don't forget your breath weapon.

For the BSB, my favorite builds are either to give him the runemaw, protecting your irongut deathstar from enemy magic, or just the crown of command to make sure they don't break.  Keep him in the second rank and give him a great weapon.  3 decent high str supporting attacks are nice, and that way you don't lose your VERY important leadership reroll.

Standard core is a decent block of ironguts, full command, lookout gnoblar, and the banner of discipline.  We have leadership issues, so the banner is important.  Otherwise, it sounds like you have roughly everything you might ever need for a decently competitive list.

Hey matey,

Thank you ever so much with those tips, I'll think I'll stay away from the sickle for the time being.

I just want a safe build for the slaughter master & rock hard BSB build as he's real important to OK armies.

I'm thinking of a iron guts core & go from there in 2k but I reckon I can hit 2.5k with what I've got already may not be the best army but it'll be fun none the less!
