Are Ogres Still Viable?

original thread ↗

Hi all, i am trying for etc tourney.  i used to play the new dwarfs and they are cool but i also have the possibility to play ogres and i am also good at it.

Now having played several games i see that mainly all elfs are played at the moment which makes them op in some kind of combinations.   I am running a regular list, an all comers really but with ogres its difficult due to points to have the all comers you want.

I have been really annoyed lately with every army i played against just ignores my unit/units.  Generally all elfs are unis of fast cavalries so they just run around me, magic blow or outshoot me.  Even yesterday against this daemons usual nurgle list.  The guy kept on going back, flying over me etc.

Everybody knows that we are powerful in combat so they try to eat us as much as they can before trying to get in combat, many don't even try playing annoying i came to play warhammer to flee.  i understand it is a tactic but how can we go around this? i am currently not using alot of small units so generally i am getting the +1 to start and starting turn 1 in the middle of the table.

I have 2 tusks which are good but everbody now know they are ld4 and are easily removed from the table, i changed from maw to heavens for the sake of having to deal some damage as withtout some kind of magic missiles i can't touch my opponent.

any thoughts? help maybe?

We are not playing the actual etc rules as we are trying to play or think what draft 4 will be, at the moment as you might already know there are several questions regarding the 50% lords and heroes, scenarios, units from end of times, heroes from end of times, special characters etc.  So we play with 25% lords and heroes, no scenarios, no special characters etc.

SM lvl4 grut sickle, dragonbanegem, gw, heaens
Tyrant dragonhelm GW
bsb with runemaw
butcher lvl2 hellheart maw
12 x bulls fcl
6 x guts fcl flaming
4 x fangs with dragonhide
3 x ladies musician
2 x sabretusks
1 x blaster
I have made a similar experience with my ogres army in my last ETC comp tournament. DE, WoC, HE, etc. have strong lists with a lot of flying characters / monsters.

I think we have to change our list in order to be able to fight these strong characters and fast cavs.

What about bringing the lore of death in your list? You should be able to kill some characters from distance. I am currently trying to put my tyrant on a carpet in order to catch the nasty flyers  :P

There are not a lot of possible answers in our armybook to the new ETC meta:
- 2 IB
- strong tyrant maybe on a carpet
- death magic
- maybe a strong unit of 7 maneaters with pistols (Scouts, poison)

Have a try with these possible solutions
Tyrant + Double Firebelly does very well against those lists.  My current list for Swedish is:

Tyrant
BSB w/Runemaw
2 Firebelly's RRoR, DS (you could add Hellheart)
7 Ironfists Ogres
8 Ironguts
3 Leadbelchers
Sabertusk
6 scouting maneaters built for CC no pistols
4 Mournfang with Dragonhide
Ironblaster

Does the tyrant in the first list achieve anything that a Bruiser cannot?
