Lore of Metal

original thread ↗

Good Evening Stronghold,

Lore of Metal

I would welcome views on with regards "Searing Doom" from the above lore, which affects armoured models.
How would this impact on:

(1) Units with scaly skin, e.g. Saurus warrior (5+) or Dragon (3+)
(2) High Elf White Lions
(3) Archaon

Points to note
(1) Scaly skin offers an armour save but is not armour per se.
(2) Lion cloaks offer +2 to the armour save vs missile spells but are not armour.
(3) Archaon has an armour save of 1+ but cannot be wounded on better than a 3+

Cheers,

Badmarsh

PS To throw another spanner in the works, how does the Glittering Robe work on models which already have scaly skin?
Lets see what I can do with this:

1) scaly skin counts as armor.  That means that your standard saurus warrior is wounded on a 4+ (they have shields), while temple guard are wounded on a 3+ (they have shields and halberds, so while they have a 4+ armor save in combat, any time you could actually hit them with searing doom, they have a 3+.

2) Searing doom wounds based on the armor save with the cloak.  It is a missile spell, so the armor save counts for determining searing doom wounds.

3) Does Archaon have a ward against flaming attacks?  Otherwise, he will be wounded on a 3+ (searing doom is treated like it has a variable strength depending on their armor save.  You would wound him on a 2+, but his rule changes that to a 3+)

Finally:  glittering robe does not stack with units that already have scaly skin.  This is why metal is almost never taken with lizards: it doesn't boost saurus at all, and only improves skinks by +1.  This is why I wish ogres could take metal:  +2 armor, the ability to wipe out big units with less fear for backfires, an expensive (yet useful) way of wiping out skullcrushers, etc.  It would just generally be good for us.
I agree with the Gnome of Law.

Many thanks for your replies guys.

Just to check with (2):

(a) What score would "Searing Doom" wound on; &
(b) What would the armour save be, because of the cloak?

Thanks in advance
I don't have the elf book handy- does the cloak even work against magical attacks?
GI you have hit the nail on the head.
The exact wording is that:

"Models wearing a lion cloak add +2 to their armour save against non-magical shooting attacks."

I should have read it properly!
