Malekith the Eternity

original thread ↗

I played 2 games today against Malekith the Broken he is the most broken character in warhammer immune to pretty much everything ogres can throw at him. Cannons dont work, hitting him on 5's in combat if you get to fight at all. Poison pistols might work but we have one turn then combat, avoidance doesn't work as he can fly, i did stuff a double flee but it wouldn't have mattered. In both games i did a grand total of 1 wound with a fireball. Flaming sword might work but I didn't roll it (no khaine magic rules) any ideas short of refusing to play him on how to beat him. I think if my opponent asks  for a game again its gonna be no malekith or no game it was that unfun. Thoughts
“As iron sharpens iron, so truth cuts, and war makes right.”  Ancient Proverb of the Medusan Clans
The new characters are just a little silly tbh.  If I understand right Malekith can only ever take 1 wound from any source, making cannons pointless.  I don't know what to suggest really.  I had a hard enough time fighting Karl Franz ascended.

Personally I think your opponent may have to put him up really until we at least get our updates.  Using the new Khaine stuff against armies with out is a little harsh unless you are actively seeking to see what they can really do.  (Which after 2 games I'm sure you know now.)

Kind regards Zolas.

Malekith always would only suffer 1 wound from any source.
This was not added with End Times.

The combined profile of Malekith and his Dragon mount made the ability he already had much more powerful ( more starting wounds ), but the ability itself has always been there.

The key to Malekith ( both pre and post End Times ) is the fact his 2+ ward save only works against mundane attacks, not magical.

He does still have his MR(2), so he has the 5+ ward save against spells, but those magical weapon attacks get no ward save at all.
He was much easier to cope with in his regular form, mind. Here he's an absolute nightmare, since you can't blast his dragon out from underneath him.

I'm really not sure what to do with Ogres, short of somehow getting flaming sword of ruin off on an Irongut unit and then somehow getting into combat with him.
Ogres - because who honestly likes 2 wound heroes?
gnoblar bus.  Tie him up and kill the rest of his army.

Plus make sure you start taking spinemarrow; the ability to put stubborn where you need it is mandatory.
If the elven legion is used you MUST use the Khaine Magic.
Honestly, these days, just refuse games against any End Times books until we get our piece of the pie. They're ridiculously unbalanced for the armies that they've already helped out, and they leave the unsupported armies in the dust for no good reason. Plus, all the stupid multi-wounds and excessive defense/offense in one model doesn't give us any real hope of fending it off with anything that we would normally use. Plus, "Gnoblar buses" would only work if the opponent screws up and allows his big guy to get anywhere near the gnobs :P

(Granted, the End Times is just a ploy to get people to buy the really expensive models that will immediately end up sitting on the shelf once 9th arrives. So yeah, not very excited/interested in what they've done so far).
38 Gnobs! Almost on my 4th Pack of Trappers! Exciting

New book WLD: 21/11/3 - Got trounced by one of the "Khaine" elf armies... Stupid new rules...

There's nothing wrong with End Times if you play against people who aren't obsessed with Win At All Costs lists. I've fought some delightfully crazy Undead Legions lists, and the fluffy Chaos players can come up with some brilliant retro lists that call back to the time of authentic unified Chaos.

Seriously, KFA, Malekith and Tyrion are all packing stupid Multi-Wound D3 weapons and are seriously hard on top of it, they shred Ogres. Just don't play against them and stick to the people who like the fun lists.

I am just looking at the Khaine stuff (Summaries, I don't have the book, heres hoping for Christmas) and I am loving the idea of finally getting rid of the lines between High, Dark, and Woodies. I mean, High Elf infantry supported by Wood Elf Archers, with some HE Cav in support. (I don't care for the Dark Elves.) I would love that!
The Khaine magic rules are growing on me.  The random max-power dice can really pone the big unit-deletion spells that we all know and hate.
