Fighting Woodelves?

original thread ↗

My main opponent is a shooty-hide in woods Elf player...I'm struggling against the poison attacks, wayfarers and the deer-cavalry of doom. plus he is using that damn purple nurple spell to wipe out half my ogres!

What suggestions do you all have for me against this foe?
For starters, tell him that purple sun is unfair and you aren't playing against him so long as he uses that undercosted, overpowered cheese fest. (ok, maybe I'm a little bitter...)

All kidding aside, I have a couple of suggestions:

 - Leadbelchers are really useful for knocking down wild riders into manageable numbers.  Wild riders are a major threat, but they do not like massed fire.  They are also useful for taking out sisters of the thorn bunkers.  One of the hardest bunkers to stop is 8 or so sisters with a mounted bsb and mounted wizard.  If one of the characters has 2+ MR, the leadbelchers are the only way to deal with them, as there is no way to charge them unless he greatly misplays.

 - Firebellys are great for dropping big archer units.  I like taking tyrant/ 2x firebelly against wood elves.  Fireball really hurts glade guard and once the numbers have been whittled down, they stop being a threat.  Also, wood elves have several flammable units, so this lets you take advantage of that weakness.

 - Gorgers.  Yes really.  While it won't bother trueflight guys, these will wreak havoc on a big block of poison archers.  1 or 2 of these will work wonders in ruining his battle plan.

 - Hellheart.  If he's going to play with broken sun, you can play with hellheart.  Remember that the sisters that make up the bunker are casters as well, so you not only hurt the death caster, but you also wipe out 2 or 3 sisters as well.  Have the hellheart in with your main unit.  If he's going to get close enough to get value out of death, he's going to be close enough to hellheart.

 - Thundertusk.  You get a stone thrower for taking out archer groups, and you get to remove rerolls when dealing with the wild riders.

Make sure when placing your units that you spread out far enough to prevent waywatchers from scouting your flank.  If you bring a hunter, you can try to vanguard block to keep him from surrounding you right away with reindeer riding cruise missiles.
Good suggestions! thanks!
