The End Times: Khaine

original thread ↗

SPOILERS

For those of you who don't know, this weekend the next End Time book will go up for preorder. It is called Khaine. IT will unite Elves into playable Armies. However naff that sounds it actually seems to have been done rather well (with the obvious omission of new models... but we wait patiently...)

Here are some rumours via a Spanish website with pictures from the white dwarf (translated directly from Italian):

Translated from Italian..

Finubar was found dead, brutally murdered, within its premises.
- Tyrion is the ruler of Ulthuan.

Teclis tries to convince him not to do it, but in the end Tyrion pulls the Sword of Khaine.
- Removing the sword, Tyrion takes on the appearance of the Avatar of Khaine.
- Many are on the side of Tyrion. The Dark Elves who are on his side, they do it because they are extremely devoted to Khaine.

In the third picture lists the reason why we should read Warhammer Khaine:
1. Lileath Teclis and create a plan to save the elves from destruction.
2. It revealed the truth about Malekith and the flames of Asuryan.
3. The heroes turn against their old allies in a cold-blooded massacre. It is not guaranteed the loyalty of anyone.
4. Die Elves, but also their gods.
5. Araloth, Lord of Talsyn must launch a rescue mission in the Realm of Chaos.
6. In the darkest hours of the elven race, the heroes arise, but for those who are fighting?
7. Many of the greatest heroes of Ulthuan and Athel Loren Naggaroth pay the final price, but its many ...
8. Alith Anar down on the battlefield, commanding the Aesanar free and a blow that will decide the fate of the elven race ..
9. On the Island of the Dead is decided the fate of an entire race. He had not seen such heroism since the time of Aenarion.
10. After many years (both in the Warhammer world and in ours), there is a winner in the war between the Elves.

the first of three new army lists is the Host of the Phoenix King, an army led by Malekith.
- Caradryan ordered the guards to protect the Phoenix Malekith.
- The Wood Elves of Athel Loren following Alarielle, the Avatar of Isha.
- The second list is the Aestyrion, or the warriors loyal to Tyrion.
- The third list is a big spoiler for the story, so they do not reveal the details. They say that there will be only one winner and this list represents survivors.
- Although the patterns on the White Dwarf are painted with their original heraldry, recommend to paint your own templates for your own army uniform.

I like the way they've opted to do the merging rather than just 'pick any elf, put on table' like they did with Chaos and Undead.

The Magic phase stuff that I've seen screenshots of (4d6 winds of magic, loremaster for everyone, new 7th ubersig spells) seems like it'll be very fun in non competitive environments. Less so in tournyhammer...
So often in so many settings (fantasy and scifi) you have these "eternal wars!" that just never resolve.  I absolutely love seeing one finally end, and apparently end in a properly bloody, gritty way; can't wait to read it.

If there's one thing that's annoyed me about 40k the last few years, its the stasis of the plot; it's been the "dawn of the 13th black crusade" for over ten years now.  It is SO nice seeing genuine plot development.
We all get trollguts every time now. Butchers just got a lot better.

See, I like that they're advancing the fluff, though I'll admit I've never been a huge reader of all of it.

I'm not hugely fond of the way they're moving their game's rules forward.

How so? What did I miss?!

All wizards are loremasters in End Times now
Really wow that's some crazy stuff  :S

Kind regards Zolas.

So the changes to the Elven fluff seem HUGE.

Any Elf players on here with an opinion on this? Malekith really should have been the phoenix king and ascends, Tyrion draws widowmaker. Pretty safe to say that Malekith and Teclis win...whether they die or not is another matter....Can't wait for the outcome!

End Times just went so far down the pan it's unbelievable. Oh, and those super spells? We got Purple Sun. That's pretty much it.

Also, if anyone asks you if they can run a Host of the Eternity King list against you, take them outside and leave them there. Overnight.
Ogres - because who honestly likes 2 wound heroes?
Why do all the ogre spells kill us almost as effectively as the enemy?! The Storm of Magic spell was equally boring.
I am a pretty big fan of the Storms of Magic LotGM spell that basically regenerates wounds for every wound done by the unit... Awesome on a unit of Ironguts...of course they would pick the crap one for our end times spell.

So, am I reading it right that they basically are basically making End Times a Storms of Magic version 2 (SoMv2.0)?  Arcane fulcrums and all else a part of the End Times stuff...4d6 dice...is there a spinning wheel?
I was greatly disappointed by the spell choice for the Maw.  We already have a super spell that we don't want to take, why would we want another one?  Nothing quite like a 1/6 chance of losing your entire unit on spellcast.

And seriously, why purple sun?  We already have access to it and already hate it.  Why would we want to always have the ability to wipe ourselves out?
So many drastic changes... I'm not sure I liike it... I was really excited about Nagash, but this has been way over the top for me since then...
I'll need to take a step back before deciding what to do, but they have destroyed most of what I thought was cool about WHFB lore. I'll wait and see what happens, but I might end up selling everything I own, if it still has any value after this is all said and done.

I think one of the big problems is that nearly every powered up special character does multiple wounds of some sort or another along with their extra attack load.  Any games that ogre will face such characters would be rather scary as whole units are just deleted.

Kind regrads Zolas.

This is, so far, only for a campaign though. And in a campaign which is setting the scene for the rise and fall of the big characters, you would expect to see them being fairly powerful.

IF it carries over into 9th then things will be different, but so far the only change to WHFB has been the increase to 50% lords and heroes hasn't it? I didn't think any of the other End Times stuff had been brought into the standard game, but then I haven't followed End Times very closely because, to be honest, it all confuses me a bit as a fairly new player.

I think the only other thing that has changed is that all wizards are allowed to use Lore of Undeath. Other than that, I think you're right. It does seem, however, that these new spells from the Khaine book will be added to WHFB, but that's just my assumption.
They call me MR. Cthulhu! AAAAAHHHHHHH!
Thing is, the setting is what made Warhammer so cool to me back when I was like 7 years old. 22 years later, I'm not against some changes, but I struggle to find something cool about so much happening in the same time, with me barely have time to feel like I have had time to be part of the changes. And this is only from a story point of view.

Gamewise, I felt 8th edition was fun, needed a little tweaking, but was far from the herohammer of old and The End Times just brought it all back up or so it seems.

Like I said, I'm not saying TET is a bad thing, but it not appealing to me at all. The pace is way to fast to my liking for these sort of changes.

If TET is any indication of the direction 9th edition is going to take, I feel like my days as a GW hobbyist will be over soon.

I was really looking forward to Nagash coming back, and hopefully a new Brettonian army book (it's the one army I've always loved that I've never actually bought anything because of lack of support).

Anyways, I guess we'll have to wait and see.

All wizards are loremasters in End Times now

So the only incentive for upgrading a wizards level is for the bonus modifier on cast rolls?
Well, you also get the free super spell on level 3 or higher wizards.
Before everyone goes nuts, remember: the whole "All daemons loss unstable and keep unbreakable" fuss turned out to be  for the campaign only missions.  I can believe a set of uber spells coming into the regular game, but the "everyone's a loremaster" and 4d6 winds just wreak of campaign silliness.

True, I'm fairly convinced of that as well. I think I was just too enraged by the annoying Eternity King army rules to be honest.

Still want to see us more! We better get a really badass part in all this.

Before everyone goes nuts, remember:
If we all waited until we can see all the rules before we panicked, the internet would be a more boring place.

Looks like the new magic rules are used by both players if either player uses the khaine rules or if either player wants to. But I'd like to see the rules myself. If GW actually printed enough for us to buy a copy that'd be nice though. I'm not buying an iPad to buy crappy End Times rules that I'm unlikely to really seriously use.

Seems to me that with each End Times release, more people are like "yep, that's reached my rhinox dung limit and I'm just going to go back to normal Warhammer".
Got the new rules up in the feeding grounds.  They're... interesting.
